SPRIND will support six teams in stage 1, up to four teams in stage 2, and up to two teams in stage 3. In stage 1, the selected teams receive up to 300,000 EUR from SPRIND. For stage 2, the teams each receive up to 300,000 EUR. Up to 350,000 EUR per team are planned for funding in stage 3. The decision on participation was made by a jury of experts following a presentation that took place in Leipzig on May 16, 2024. Stage 1 started immediately afterwards and lasts three months. DSR’s Renata Toktar, Lead Software Engineer of Decentralized Systems, participated in a panel discussion on self-sovereign identity and diploma verifiable credentials at the European Blockchain Conference in Slovenia. In addition to presenting, Renata attended several discussions and shared key takeaways for those unable to join. "The European Blockchain Week 2024 was held in Bled, Slovenia with stunning lake views. The first day featured on regulatory and governance aspects, including considerations for cross-border blockchain infrastructure for decentralized identity and blockchain. These topics align perfectly with DSR’s new EUDI initiatives and SSI Toolkit. I was honored to participate in a panel on self-sovereign identity alongside industry experts Davide Porro from Infocert, Sebastjan Pirih from Netis and the best moderator Tadej Slapnik from Hashnet. Our discussion was insightful, and the audience was highly engaged, asking thought-provoking questions throughout. We received great feedback following the panel. The second day focused on specific solutions, education projects and workshops. Attendees engaged in both general discussions and project-specific learning, exploring diverse perspectives on the blockchain market. These conversations spurred lively debates on the latest trends in the decentralized space. (sorry for the long text) The Future of Cloud, and why Gaia-X imitative is so Important for the Future of Europe. In 2009, I was one of the founders of EuroCloud, the first European non-profit association aimed at promoting the development of cloud computing across Europe. Thanks to the efforts of Pierre-José Billotte, and so many other friends, we gathered for our first meeting in Paris, La Défense. Back then, we faced numerous challenges. The first was that cloud computing was still a new concept, often dismissed as industry hype. However, our true challenge in Europe was to find a way to help the European industry seize the opportunity to play a significant role in the global ICT landscape. At that time, the IT world was already dominated by US-based companies. But gigantic companies like Microsoft were caught unprepared and struggled to find their place in this new revolution. Almost 15 years later, cloud computing has become a reality, omnipresent in our daily lives—from personal services like Netflix and Spotify to our professional routines. The current problem, highlighted by major outages in IT infrastructures worldwide, is our heavy reliance on a small group of large US-based companies. This not only gives them control over pricing but also exposes us to significant security risks. Relying on a limited number of providers for such crucial services reduces the system's resilience. It is too soon to determine the cause of the recent worldwide IT infrastructure outage affecting services as simple as validating a flight ticket. However, I hope this incident encourages us to seriously consider strong European cloud alternatives. Although almost 15 years have passed since that meeting in Paris, some of us have not given up. Shaping the future of Open Source software innovation!   The Prototype Fund, officially known as "Software Sprint," managed by Open Knowledge Foundation Deutschland e. V. and funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Germany, has been a vital support for individuals and small teams developing #OpenSource applications in Civic Tech, Data Literacy, IT Security, and Software Infrastructure.   Our 2023 evaluation found the programme highly effective in promoting Open Source #Software (FOSS) for the common good, unleashing creative potential, and engaging new target groups.    It also highlighted opportunities for improvement, such as ensuring the long-term use of developed solutions and fostering stronger connections between grant recipients, users, and stakeholders.   Some of our recommendations reflected in the renewed Prototype Fund: 👉 Increased funding amounts and support for international teams 👉 Submission of English-language applications 👉 A new "Second Stage" funding phase for practical testing and community networking 👉 Focus on high-sustainability areas like data security and software components   The renewed programme will continue to foster Open Source innovation until at least 2029.    Read our latest news to find out more 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dM9p_x2C    #OpenSource #Innovation #PrototypeFund #CivicTech #DataLiteracy #ITSecurity    Nadia Galati, Lea Rabe, Jan Biela, Dominik Obeth

Such platforms also provide technologies with an opportunity to rapidly transition from research to market, which is especially crucial in fast-changing industries. In this study, we investigated how the sentiments expressed in the text of the project campaigns and project characteristics influence the success of crowdfunding in innovative industries such as cybersecurity and the Internet of Things (IoT). We examined 657 cybersecurity and Internet of Things (IoT) projects between 2010 and 2020 that were promoted on Kickstarter and IndieGoGo, two rewards-based crowdfunding platforms. We extracted technological topic attributes that may influence project success and measured the sentiments of project descriptions using a Valence Aware Dictionary and sEntiment Reasoner (VADER) model. The by EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) funded FFplus project has opened two calls towards availability of #Highperformancecomputing capacity for #SMEs, business experiments and innovation studies. "Business experiments will address the uptake of HPC by SMEs in order to solve specific business challenges of SMEs that have had no prior use of, or experience with, HPC services. Innovation studies, in contrast, will support European SMEs and Start-ups already active in the field of generative AI technology, which lack the necessary computational resources to scale up."
