𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨… When you buy a red sweater, and then everywhere you go you see nothing but red sweaters? That’s been the case for us, but with lead scoring. We recently implemented #leadscoring for one client, and now everyone seems to be asking about it. So here a primer. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠? Lead scoring is the process of assigning numerical values to leads based on their actions, demographic information, and level of engagement. These scores help sales teams prioritize which leads are most likely to convert into customers, and are ideally set automatically. For many businesses, leads can vary greatly in terms of their readiness to purchase. A good lead scoring system uses both explicit and implicit data to separate those who are genuinely interested from those who are just browsing. Lead Scoring typically makes sense with companies that have a large number of leads and need better ways to prioritize them. As an example, let’s say we are scoring leads for a hardware company. 𝘌𝘟𝘗𝘓𝘐𝘊𝘐𝘛 𝘋𝘈𝘛𝘈, provided by the lead, could be: 🏢 Company size -  Larger companies may have bigger budgets and a higher likelihood of purchasing. 🏭 Industry - Some industries are more likely to need certain hardware solutions. 👩🏽‍⚕️ Job title - A CTO or IT Manager is more likely to make hardware decisions than someone in a marketing role. 𝘐𝘔𝘗𝘓𝘐𝘊𝘐𝘛 𝘰𝘳 𝘉𝘌𝘏𝘈𝘝𝘐𝘖𝘜𝘙𝘈𝘓 𝘋𝘈𝘛𝘈, based on the lead’s interactions with your company, could be: 🧑‍💻 Website visits -  If a lead frequently visits your product pages or downloads technical specs, it indicates a higher interest. 👍🏻 Content engagement- Leads who interact with case studies, whitepapers, or webinars are often further along in the decision-making process. 🖱️Email clicks - Opening emails or clicking links in newsletters can be a sign of engagement. Let’s look at how you might assign points based on both explicit and implicit factors. 𝘌𝘟𝘗𝘓𝘐𝘊𝘐𝘛 𝘚𝘊𝘖𝘙𝘐𝘕𝘎 𝘌𝘟𝘈𝘔𝘗𝘓𝘌 👩🏽‍⚕️ Job Title - CTO+20, IT Manager +15, General employee +5   🏢 Company Size - 1000+ employees +20, 500-999 employees +15, Less than 500 +10 🏭 Industry - technology +20, manufacturing +15, retail +5  𝘐𝘔𝘗𝘓𝘐𝘊𝘐𝘛 𝘚𝘊𝘖𝘙𝘐𝘕𝘎 𝘌𝘟𝘈𝘔𝘗𝘓𝘌 🧑‍💻 Website behaviour - visited product page +10, downloaded technical specifications +15, watched demo video +20   🖱️ Email engagement - opened email +5, clicked on product link +10, registered for webinar +20 A properly implemented lead scoring system, using a smart CRM like #HubSpot, brings multiple advantages: ➡️ Improved Sales Efficiency - by focusing on high-scoring leads, your sales team can spend more time closing deals and less time chasing unqualified leads. ➡️ Better Marketing Alignment - marketing can focus on nurturing lower-scoring leads, helping them move through the funnel. ➡️ Data-Driven Decisions - lead scoring removes guesswork, letting data guide sales and marketing strategies.

A new attribution setting? Meta made some big announcements related to optimization improvements, and Incremental Conversions was one of them. Here's a link to the full announcement: https://lnkd.in/gqeZwqRT Incremental Conversions are those that Meta believes would not have happened without seeing your ad. Meta says that when this was tested, advertisers saw an average improvement of more than 20% in Incremental Conversions. This could help cut out the fluff, though it’s not clear how it would be much different or better than optimizing for click attribution. But, I'm very likely missing some details that will make more sense later. I’m also confused by how Meta calls this an attribution setting, but they explain how this is in contrast to optimizing for volume. So, is this a new attribution setting to go along with click and view attribution? Or is it a performance goal option in addition to maximize number or value of conversions? It was a short description, so I won't hold it against Meta that I'm confused. I'm easily confused, especially without access to a new feature -- or at least some screenshots. I'm not too worried about it. We’ll see soon enough. Meta says that Incremental Conversions will start rolling out in the second half of the year.

Every ambitious, high-growth brand wanting to scale Meta profitably should do this asap. I call it The Creative Power Law: - Graph analyzes 500+ ads - Every ad = a bar - Bars = share of spend per ad - Line = cumulative distribution function (CDF) CDF is just a fancy name to calc your Creative Power Law. In this case: - 5% of ads drove 50% of spend - 10% of ads drove 67% of spend - 17% of ads drove 80% of spend ➡️ Almost a perfect 80/20 rule ✅ 📈 👊 5-steps to win: 1. Theme all ads part of your Power Law 2a. What’s working? 2b. E.g., Comparisons, reviews, benefits, etc. 3. Double down building new versions 4. Balance iterative ads + bigger swings 5. In-platform metrics are dead. MTA is dying. Cookies are going away. ☠ Attribution is getting worse. The future is all about MMM because it is... a) More accurate b) More relevant to business metrics c) More futureproof In-platform metrics are often inflated, but MMM is unbiased. It tells you where you need to spend in order to hit your revenue goal. And, it directs how much to spend in each channel. You will likely be within 10% of the goal as long as you trust it. Every time we have trusted MMM over other metrics sources the business has performed better. And it doesn’t rely on cookies, so it isn’t under threat like many of the other tracking methods. If you aren’t using it yet, add MMM to your measurement stack and see for yourself.

Your attribution is lying to you – and I have the data to prove it. In a study by Datos and SparkToro, they used clickstream data to see where people spend time on the internet, and who sends traffic on the web. What stands out immediately is Search, as it accounts for over 70% (!!!) of all traffic referrals to other websites. However, Search is NOT where people spend their time online – it only makes up 10% of the total visits in the study. The gap between referrals and visits highlights a trend in our online behavior. We spend 2/3 of our time online in social media, productivity, news, and YouTube – where we are working, learning, and being entertained. But those sites all have strong financial incentives (ads) to keep us there. They don’t want us to click on links that take us away. At the same time, we don’t actually want to leave. We showed up intentionally and we prefer consuming the native content on the site. As we’re going about our business, if we see something we want to check out, we go to Google to find out more. That all aligns exactly with my own online behavior, and probably yours too. So we have data to prove what we already suspected. Why does it matter? As marketers, when we look at our attribution, we see Search sending the most traffic to our websites and driving the most conversions. We assume that SEO and Paid Search are the stars of our marketing strategy. But the data clearly shows that Search didn’t create the value – it was simply the last toll booth that landed the prospect on our digital doorstep. Attribution has no visibility into where demand is being created. It can tell us how someone got to our website, but not where they actually spent their time learning the information that led them there. And the disparity between visits and referrals is massive. No wonder making strategic decisions on attribution never seems to result in the revenue growth we were promised. As long as we continue to believe the lies our attribution is telling us, the only company getting rich is Google. We need a better way to measure our marketing.

Thoughts on this Meta announcement: 1. On one hand, it's about time. 2. On the other, the only reason this is being done is to slurp up data from GA, etc to train the AI.  3. As I recently wrote about on my own blog, Facebook cannot be a player in marketing advertising AI without getting more data from other advertising platforms to train the model.  Will be very interesting to see what happens. There's no one-size-fits-all formula for how to start working with Affiliates, nor is there a single source of truth 🙄 I bet if you tried to google Affiliate marketing - you got lost in hundreds of sources telling you what to do, but in the end, there is no real starting point there. No one has figured out how you integrate advertising with LLM replies. If it is contextual ads around the LLM, then a good LLM answer should provide more guidance to the product you want than ads, making the ads useless. If ads are integrated into the prompt, with the instructions that the advertiser be recommended, that will lead to inaccurate, bad answers. This is sort of a big deal, given that where the sloshing pool of ad dollars flows determines almost everything about the digital spaces in which we operate.

So, they banned more than 100 ad accounts and 11 business managers we were using to spend roughly $30K/mo with them. Why they did this? No idea. Our rep reviewed our ad creative and said there was nothing wrong. We tried and tried and tried, and tried some more to get the ruling reversed, but alas, to no avail. Stupid right? Here we were spending nearly a half a million on ads with Meta, and they simply shut us down. So what did we do? We "panicked." A LOT. After the massive "fear of loss" passed, we asked ourselves one question... What's the "Worry" System we could put in place to never have to worry about where our next deal was gonna come from? We looked at the facts. We had several ad creative posts that had thousands of comments and even more likes and reactions. We thought "why don't we just message all the people and invite them to check out our webinar?" We knew immediately we were on to something because we'd already been down this path. I knew that simply saying the right words to the right person and systemizing the entire thing would be a winning strategy that could become the "Worry" system we could 100% ALWAYS rely on. So we started messaging. First day, we sent 15 messages to people that had liked one of our posts. No responses. Day 2, changed the first message and sent another 30 to people that had commented. BOOM! Immediately, 5 people reached back out to me. We conversed back and forth and sent the webinar link. Day 3, our first sale was made from our messaging efforts. Then we doubled down. That was more than 5 years ago. Since then, we've perfected this "Worry" system for ourselves and have served more than 2,000 other founders in their businesses. The results? We see 83% of businesses engaging with our strategy having the biggest results of their lives in their businesses. The 17% that don't get results? They don't do the work. Maybe they do the work, but they don't do the work for a long enough period. They're not hungry enough to win. I share all of this to simply ask...
