Boston Consulting Group (BCG) hosted a luncheon and had a discussion at Asian Development Bank (ADB) Annual Meeting together with Woochong Um, Stephanie King-chung Hung, Anthony Oundjian and Luke Raffin on how to unleash (not merely harness) AI to accelerate inclusive economic development. The key word here is inclusive. AI is impactful and it must be deployed at scale to the most profound and systemic challenges the world is facing… #demography, #skills and #climate changes. #HeathSystems, #EmploymentMarkets and #infrastructure need to be all adapted and quickly. I worry, however, than in some developing markets, too much of their annual budget is spent on debt service. In fact, it’s been reported that 40% of humanity lives in countries that spend more on interest payments on public debt than the governments spend on health and education combined. Impact at scale requires more than just compliance to an ESG framework. We had a full house at the event and hope to have injected some though provoking perspectives to this. There is no time to wait.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for #women in the Asia-Pacific region, home to more than 60 percent of the world’s 8 billion inhabitants. Asia accounted for 60% of all #cardiovascular deaths recorded globally, and cardiovascular mortality is forecast to double by 2050 increasing the cardiovascular burden for the region. In particular in SEA, Cardiovascular diseases remain the #1 cause of death among women in SEA; Stroke (17.71%), Ischemic Heart Disease (IHD) 11.51%, Hypertensive Heart Disease (HHD) 2.84%. While the number of women participating in randomized #clinicaltrials has increased, ethnic and racial minorities continue to be under-represented in research published in peer reviewed medical journals, resulting in less evidence-based clinical care compared to men. Hospital sub-specialization on women’s cardiovascular health is also limited to the most advanced institutions across asia and particularly Southeast Asia, preventing immediate access to platforms to raise awareness among patients and physicians on sex-specific cardiovascular disease symptoms. Excited to share the launch of an extremely important report on cardivascular #inequity for women in the asia pacific region. What can the rest of the world learn from Asia's energy transition journey? As the world's manufacturing hub, Asian countries are generally taking a pragmatic energy decarbonization approach. ▶️ Nuclear - Strong growth in China, Korea, re-entry in Japan and planned entry in several South-East Asian countries ▶️ Massive growth in renewables. For example, China will be responsible for more than half of the world's renewable energy installations in the next 4 years ▶️ Strong growth in biofuels, especially in South-East Asia ▶️ Large (untapped) opportunities in energy efficiency ▶️ Carbon taxes or emission trading schemes planned in more countries across the region (e.g. Malaysia, Thailand) which will gradually improve the business case for decarbonization
