This location had gained viral fame on social media, attracting thousands of tourists and creating traffic hazards. Authorities argue the barrier is necessary to balance tourist influx and residents' quality of life. #Japan faces challenges managing its tourism boom, with concerns about overtourism, local backlash, and infrastructure strain. Despite these issues, efforts to attract high-spending visitors to less crowded areas continue, aiming to enhance the tourist experience while preserving local communities. But that’s not the only measure to curtail the number of tourists that interact with Mount Fuji: as of this summer, local authorities have introduced limits on those who can climb the mountain. It is now necessary to pre-book to access one of the several trails that lead to the summit. Did you know that the Chinese Hierarchy is about control, manipulation, abuse and power struggle? 磕頭 - Traditional Chinese 叩头 - Simplified Chinese Kow Tow - English In the Emperors’ days, anyone who met him, would be expected to Kow tow, before him. It was the protocol. This has been passed onto society, to this day. In a Chinese wedding, you Kow Tow and kneel in front of your parents and serve them tea. This is to show them respect and gratitude for raising you. After the tea serving, you receive a 利是🧧， aka a red envelope with money in it. You also do this, for other elders of your immediate family. I did this, at both my weddings and I absolutely detested it. One of the biggest culture shocks for me, when I started attending school here in Glasgow, Scotland in August 1980 was: None of my classmates stood up when our teacher came into our classroom. Nor did they Kow Tow and greet our teacher with “Good morning Teacher” I found this rather strange! When I could speak enough English, I asked my classmate, who sat next to me: “Why we do not stand up and greet our Teacher with a Kow Tow and a good morning?” Classmate answered “What are you talking about?” This Kow Tow is not reciprocated. Our elders do not Kow Tow to their young people. This is disrespectful. What is not reciprocated, in my opinion, is a form of control, manipulation, abuse and power struggle. Our Chinese elders expects the younger generation to obey them. This is highly dysfunctional and unhealthy, because they do not respect their younger generation. There is very little nurturing, with this form of power struggle. I strongly disagree with this cultural expectation, because of the way our elders use it to control, manipulate and abuse their younger generation. It is a form of power struggle. My recent work at China Family Office Research Institute (Hong Kong) has touched on some crucial questions about China's HNWIs (High-Net-Worth Individuals) and their family wealth succession plan: ▪ How do China's HNWIs think of wealth inheritance? ▪ What does it mean for them to pass on their family wealth? ▪ What are the challenges China's HNWIs face on wealth inheritance? ▪ What do HNWIs in China expect from family trusts how can a family trust achieve their goals? ▪ Have the inheritance needs of China's HNWIs changed over time? A survey conducted by Standard Chartered Priority Banking and Forbes China shares interesting statistics around wealth inheritance for China's HNWIs, and I have collected several key findings: ▪ The average age of the survey group is about 52 years old, and 44.6% are first-generation entrepreneurs or business founders. ▪ 47.6% of respondents had a household net worth between RMB50m to 500m with common financial instruments and fixed assets, such as cash, deposits, stocks & bonds, insurance, and real estate. Other non-financial assets include art pieces, family networks, reputations, etc. ▪ Respondents are also highly concerned about health management, education and international mobility. Lack of Planning... Lack of professional wealth planning is a significant factor leading to "difficulty in inheritance". Most respondents' wealth is concentrated in deposits and bank wealth management products, with insurance products being the favored inheritance tool, but these may not achieve the core purpose of "flexible wealth distribution and inheritance". "Lack of clear goals and long-term planning" and "Insufficient time and energy" are also the main reasons for not considering family wealth inheritance. Passing the Baton? ▪ 96% of respondents plan for "flexible wealth distribution and inheritance", which has become the core demand for inheritance, and family trusts that can meet this demand are expected to gain more development. ▪ 70.3% aim to effectively isolate business risks through inheritance planning. ▪ 55.4% seek to unify and educate wealth, family values, and outlook on life, in addition to material wealth inheritance. China's HNWIs are looking to adopt more statistical and diversified asset allocation strategies to stabilize growth, diversify risks, and implement their inheritance awareness through professional wealth managers. Family trusts are seen as a key tool, with most respondents wanting to include direct descendants, spouses, and parents as beneficiaries to meet the needs of intergenerational inheritance. The cross-border regulations and tax supervision are their concerns in the distribution of family trusts, and they will inevitably seek professionals in law, tax consulting to customize succession plans. Self-appointed sages claiming China is certain to invade Taiwan, seem to forget the 2 most recent occupations that struck the island.   Before considering when Taiwan was last over-run by ‘outsiders’, we need to go back to when this happened the time before then. The 1st Sino-Japanese war of 1894/5 resulted in China’s humiliating defeat. And as with almost all such conflicts between nations, land proved the Spoil of War. In this case, China was forced to hand Korea & Taiwan to Japan; starting for both, 50yrs of occupation. With Japan's defeat, Taiwan's retrocession came on Oct 25th '45. But though Korea would find itself consumed by conflict & division (what, for ever?) Taiwan returned to China in the whole. It was reunited, however, markedly different from when last ‘as one’ with the mainland. 50 years of occupation within Taiwan meant Japanese was spoken as much as mandarin. Ensured too that kimonos were more common than qipaos, & with many other alterations evident in culture & even cuisine. All forced occupational changes aside, when troops from the Chinese mainland ‘liberated’ Taiwan in very late '45, they were greeted warmly. It was however, a welcome which would prove short-lived. By '47, following the murderous ‘228 Incident’, the increasingly heavy-handed, indeed trigger-happy mainlanders, became viewed by the Taiwanese, as all too often, tyrannical occupiers. In 1949, following the KMT’s defeat to Mao’s communist forces, Chiang Kai-Shek landed in Taiwan, bringing with him close to 1m of his mainland loyalists (at the time the local population was c6m). Those denying this was an invasion might like to reflect on the fact that on their arrival the KMT imposed strict martial law. This lasted 38yrs, over which time KMT mainland ‘interlopers’ would broach from locals NO political dissent: a KMT seeking eventual reunion. So, then, to those who confidently & chillingly foresee mainland China will surge into Taiwan, I say this: your prediction is 75yrs late. There will no doubt be those who make the case that precisely because Taiwan has been so prized by those seeking regional dominance, it must be certain that China will pounce hard upon it (again?) to prise it from America’s soft control. If this were indeed to shockingly unfold, one could hardly overstate the regional & indeed far wider consequences. It is precisely because of the ENORMOUS asymmetry in the costs & benefits of an invasion, that I refuse to accept Beijing’s power brokers will act in such a reckless way. If China deployed its military power against Taiwan’s not inconsiderable armed-forces, on a heavily fortified island, it would also, without doubt, have to contest with the might of the US. To repeat, the costs to China would be INCALCULABLE. But WHY ON EARTH would China act militarily when it can monetarily ‘chip’ away at Taiwan's Achilles Heel? By hoarding the world’s rare earths & other semi-essentials, & ramping up its chipmaking, Beijing IS attacking Taiwan.

From my friend Jingzhou : In December 2023, China’s Ministry of State Security warned key commentators on social media to stop criticising the economy and spreading what it alleges to be disinformation. Last month, Zhu Hengpeng, a leading economist at a top government think-tank, reportedly disappeared after making disparaging remarks about the economy in a private WeChat group. These troubling developments have intensified scepticism about China’s economic reality, creating what could be described as a Tacitus Trap. Named after the Roman historian, this theory posits that when public trust in government erodes, citizens will assume that all information released by government — regardless of its truth — may be false. Some netizens even joke that China owes its recent economic success to the National Bureau of Statistics, the Central Propaganda Department and the Internet Information Office. This new status quo is neither sustainable nor conducive to long-term growth, as information distortions create a feedback loop which undermines development. One misleading figure may need to be followed by others to preserve the narrative, setting the scene for a self-perpetuating cycle of misinformation.

I found my martial arts master 11 years ago and started practicing Tai Chi to calm my mind and get in closer touch with my body. Wu Style drew me in completely. Then there was Muay-Thay, and boxing. Finally Kung Fu Choy Lee Fut appeared. In the video, I am performing one of the forms of this style after a break of almost a year without regular exercise. You can see it... This thought came to mind during that exercise: Here are 10 measures to achieve martial arts mastery. I also did a self-assessment of these fighter competencies below. (My average is 2.7 out of 10). 1. Physical endurance (2/10): Enables you to fight longer without tiring quickly. Comes from regular prolonged and intense training. 2. Peace of mind (4/10): Influences one to make accurate decisions under environmental pressure and maintain composure even in the most difficult situations. 3. Pain resistance (3/10): Helps you endure successive attacks longer and continue fighting despite injuries and trauma suffered. 4. Flexibility (2/10): Provides a better range of motion, greater striking power and is crucial for executing complex techniques and evasions. 5. Speed (1/10): Allows you to react instantly to your opponent's movements and to attack and defend more effectively. 6. Strength (3/10): Is essential for delivering powerful blows, generating blocks and maintaining constant control over the opponent. 7. Fortitude (4/10): Gives the determination and perseverance needed to endure difficult battles and to not give up. It is also the foundation of hard training and a lever for continued success despite setbacks. 8. Adaptive intelligence (3/10): Enables rapid adaptation to changing combat conditions and opponent strategies, and accelerates learning the other side's weaknesses and seeking ever-new forms of gaining an advantage. 9. How I wish the stimulus package can put money into corporates so that they can have cash to generate real profit and not helping some to cash out. I've been surprised by the misconceptions Chinese healthcare players have about the Korean market, even among industry veterans. It explains why, despite Korea being the third-largest importer of Chinese products overall, healthcare products only make up for 3% of that trade. In one of the recent interview articles, I unveiled three common misconceptions Chinese healthcare companies have about the Korean market and why these might indicate huge opportunities for them: 𝐌𝐲𝐭𝐡 1️⃣: Korea’s healthcare market is too small. 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡: The true size of the market cannot be gauged by land area, population, or local demand alone. Especially for healthcare products, it needs to take into accounts many factors, such as national economic power, insurance coverage, healthcare technology advancement level and even the healthcare awareness of citizens. For healthcare, Korea is usually top 4 in Asia and top 10 in the world. 𝐌𝐲𝐭𝐡 2️⃣: The Korean market is very exclusive and difficult to penetrate. 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡: While some may find it challenging to get their products certified in Korea due to its high standards, these standards are on par with other trusted regulated markets like Europe and the United States. In fact, many Chinese medical products have now developed to the point where they can fully compete in the mainstream markets. High standards mean higher credibility, which can ultimately benefit businesses in the long run. On the other hand, many countries have policies to protect their own products, especially in highly attractive markets. However, South Korea is one of the few countries in the world that treats domestic and imported products equally, both in terms of pricing and registration. 𝐌𝐲𝐭𝐡 3️⃣: Either target Europe or USA, or follow the trend and focus on Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Entering the Korean market is a waste of time and resources. 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡: For Chinese companies with innovative products and global aspiration that are not yet ready to compete head-to-head with European and American players in those advanced market, South Korea is a perfect middle-sized advanced market to test the waters. By establishing a foothold in Korea, Chinese companies can gain valuable experience and prove their commercial viability before entering larger markets such as Japan, Europe, and USA. Given the current low penetration of Chinese healthcare innovations in Korea, there are significant opportunities for competitive pricing and profit margins. Inevitable , China should focus on domestic market consolidation and their real estate rehabilitation , i will call it. China is facing toughest years ahead . Time to focus on the business, than polity . China will make some political corrections also in the process of change . Politburo will listen to the market and finance need. Hopefully the US downfall will help them to build new market , as such china dependence on USA is hurting both USA & China . India is in the best of the opportunity zone. Our people are not matured enough to capitalize, instead of focusing on them, and Hindutva Agena, One party focus, electronic dependence of elections, should see the ground issues and act appropriately to create jobs, innovation, research .. otherwise in next 10 years India will nosedive in growth opportunity will slip their hands.

9 Oct 2024..........Market Updates China's NDRC delivered its press conference contents yesterday, citing the need to do more, in order to reverse China's declining economic momentum and that tanked the Hang Seng Index by 10% (recent 25% rally). US Fed speakers were mostly unanimous about taking a cautious approach to cutting rates, citing the need to be data dependent. In a surprise twist in geopolitical risk, Hezbollah endorsed Lebanon ceasefire efforts which saw a sharp $35 drop in XAU/USD to a low of 2604.00. However, that may not end the geopolitical risk as Israel will have the final say if there will be a ceasefire. Israel has killed many of Hezbollah's top and influential leaders, but will it agree to a ceasefire now, that it is so close to weeding out the root of all evil? Nevertheless, the dollar traded firmer last night against all currencies. The DXY and the US10Y closed @ 102.47 (day range 102.30-102.63) and @ 4.01% (day range 3.99%-4.05%) respectively. The S&P traded higher and closed @ 5,751 (day range 5,716-5,757), in reaction to the ceasefire news. The market will be looking at the RBNZ Interest Rate Decision @9 am Singapore time today. They are expected to cut 50 bp from current 5.25% to 4.75%. Thereafter, there will be no more data releases, except for more scheduled US Fed Speakers (Goolsbee, Barkin, Williams & Logan) speeches at night. The main data releases start tonight @ 2 am Singapore tonight, whereby the US FOMC Minutes will be released. This will be followed by US Core CPI & CPI data tomorrow evening. REFUTATION OF A CHINA MYTH The 'Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation’ is all about moving China back to the center stage of the world. It is precisely where China belongs to according to the self–perception of the ruling elite. In Chinese history, the country was always an economic superpower, the most prosperous in the world for centuries. The graphic from Barclays Capital is showing this widely accepted narrative. According to the Angus Maddison project at the Groningen Growth and Development Centre, China accounted for between 22 and 30 per cent of world GDP from AD 1 until the eighteenth century, peaking finally at about 33 per cent in 1820. Taking on a different perspective, Prof. Daokui Li of Tsinghua University and Prof. Guan Hanhui of Peking University came to a different result. Taking into consideration the size of the population, the per capita income of China began to decline already one thousand years ago, a decline that began during the Song dynasty (960 AD – 1279 AD). From 980 AD to 1800 AD, per capita income declined despite an increase in total output. By 1775, China's per capita income was only 30 percent of that of the United Kingdom.
