We are pleased to announce the launch of the Hang Seng HKEX Stock Connect China Enterprises Index (‘#SCCEA’), in collaboration with Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) (‘#HKEX’). The SCCEA, which will be launched on 21 November 2024, serves as a comprehensive benchmark for Chinese companies eligible for trading under #StockConnect. The SCCEA is composed of 80 constituents, including Southbound Stock Connect-eligible Hang Seng China Enterprises Index (‘#HSCEI’) constituents and large-cap A-shares eligible for trading through the Northbound Stock Connect. HKEX to Digitalise ETP Servicing Capabilities with Online Platform Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) is pleased to announce today (Tuesday) plans to digitise and automate the in-kind creation and redemption process for relevant exchange-traded products (ETP) in 2025 through the adoption of a web-based platform, subject to technical readiness and regulatory approval. This platform will be integrated into the ETP creation and redemption process, connecting key ETP participants with the use of Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) and smart contracts, and will help increase overall ETP market efficiency, supporting the continued growth of secondary market activity for ETPs. MPF Ratings released Q1 2024 MPF Asset Class Fund Flow Summary by highlighting that US equities received over $9bn of MPF’s net inflows in Q1 2024, by far the largest quarterly MPF net inflows into US equities ever recorded, and a concerning trend which Mr Chung attributes to a confluence of new fund launches, disappointing local equity results and MPF members trying to capitalize on the strong momentum of the US market. The SFC’s Asset and Wealth Management Activities Survey 2023 reaffirms Hong Kong’s position as a premier asset and wealth management hub with a diversified investor base, globalised asset allocation and robust fund inflows. International investors consistently account for more than half of total asset under management (AUM), while the city allocates 60% of its managed assets to overseas markets. Compared to 2022, overall AUM grew 2% in 2023, while net fund inflows more than quadrupled. The number of licensed asset managers also showed steady growth on a three-year horizon. Besides the popularity of U.S. stock funds, the market generally anticipates new stimulus policies from the central government, prompting members to invest more in Chinese equity funds that are more directly benefited by national policies. Despite recent political events causing market volatility, members should approach MPF management from a long-term asset allocation perspective rather than frequently trading to capture short-term fluctuations. Mr. Victor Yip, Chairman of YF Life Trustees, said: "Today, it marks a new milestone for YF Life Trustees as we become the first trustee in Hong Kong onboarding the eMPF Platform. With the unified, digitized, streamlined and automated administrative procedures of MPF schemes, not only does it enhance efficiency, but also brings about reduction in fees and charges, creating a win-win situation for trustees, employers and scheme members.” Mr. Alvin Tse, Chief Executive Officer, YF Life Trustees, added: "Looking ahead, we will focus on trustee services, and will strengthen intermediary training and further optimize the performance of constituent funds, through searching for top-performing fund managers and new fund choices. H&P Financial Services Weekly - Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is the Number One Super market of the week, up > 30%, driven by lower rates and new liquidity. We look at intraday volatility in Q3, which was up on Q2, with that major August spike, which should have helped the leveraged trading platforms PLUS, IGG and CMCX. Rising markets will have added some c. 3% to UK wealth management assets last quarter. Brooks Macdonald estimates are still woefully out of date, in our opinion. Premier Miton reveals more of their MPS plans. Man Group presents an entry point, with AHL underperforming for a while. Tavistock flies on a major disposal which will nonetheless benefit acquirer Saltus. According to MPF Ratings' latest MPFR Index, the top 10 MPF fund categories showed remarkable performance in July, with returns of between 1.34 per cent and 4.15 per cent. The significant threefold difference in these returns underlines the diversity of performance across the MPF landscape. In particular, returns for US equity funds fell from 4.72% in May to 3.01% in June and further to 1.43% in July, but remained positive throughout the period.
