Everyone is talking about AI, but few people have a clear idea of how they could implement in their own business. The opportunities for using AI models to increase efficiency, cut costs and speed up design and production are there - but first you need to understand exactly what AI is and how it works. This month Inside Fashion sat down with Prof. Calvin Wong, CEO of AiDLab in Hong Kong to find out what he and his team are working on. Turns out, that while AI is not that 'magic wand' the miraculously does the work for you, AI can be a game-changing tool for both designers and factories in highly competitive markets. Thus Prof. Wong dispells another fear: that AI will replace people. As an expert in the field of AI development, Prof. Wong assured us that AI and people are 'better together'. Each has its own role. In addtion to AI, we dive into a lot of other key industry topics this month including these must-read articles: ➤ Why Brands are Considering Returning to Myanmar ➤ How Convenience Stores are Cashing in on Fashion. ➤ De Minimus Under Fire. Why? And What's Next? ➤ How Luxury Brands Lost their Market Immunity ➤ Sports Brands Find an Active Market in Southeast Asia ... and lots more Check out Inside Fashion at https://lnkd.in/gfvw3HRr #AI #fashiontechnology #industry4.0. • What's Happening in October? A lot!!! First up, we sit down with Raymond Ling, Director of FWKK, a cutting edge Hong Kong-based swimwear manufacturer. FWKK is bringing vision and innovation to swimwear - a challenging category within the already challenging apparel industry. Their success shows what can be achieved when you think creatively - and back that up with great leadership. Speaking of leadership, FWKK is one of the many leading companies who is an esteemed member of Inside Fashion. We also look at two key markets where consumers are willing to trade up on apparel. (no, not everyone is looking for the cheapest possible products ...) Then we take a look at what happens when a brand gets too big and its success leads to its downfall. Then there's the matter of why companies are finding that their teams are actually becoming less productive (yes, really) - despite having even more (allegedly) time saving technology. All this ... and more ... is available in our October issue of Inside Fashion! #swimwear #apparelsourcing #supplychainmanagement Raymond Ling

This Week In Global Supply Chains Just when you think you know what's coming ... everything changes! We've seen an overall softening in freight rates, but not on all routes. In fact, rates have inched up again from Asia to Europe. Then there's the turmoil that has rocked Bangladesh. From what we hear, factories have resumed operations and exporting is trying to get back to normal - and clear the backlog - as quickly as possible. Materials prices have also surprised us this week. Then there was the panic caused by a few days of a global stock sell off - which got everyone fired up with predictions that the US economy was heading to recession - and would be taking the rest of the world with it! As of today, the markets have rebounded. Still, we could a see a 'softening' of the economy. • Here's what's happening in August: Arjun Puri, CEO of Anko Global discusses how Anko is offering retailers products backed by proven selling floor success. Truly game-changing for any retailer who wants to expand their assorment - without the risk and expensive of developing more products. We also look at how the apparel industry, once a tech laggard, is now embracing technology. We look at where manufacturers plan to make the biggest tech investments - and what that timeline might look like. Speaking of technology, AI has caught everyone's interest, but some companies are saying "not so fast". We uncover four things that are causing organizations to hit 'pause' on AI. This month our 'Sourcing Spectrum' focus is on Jordan - and how the nation has its sights set on developing its apparel industry. With duty-free access to the US and EU, there are some interesting opportunities. Looking at brands, we find that Urban Revivo has a unique strategy that focuses on stores rather than e-commerce. We also dive into why Nike continues to underperform (and no, its not just a lack of innovation). There's so much to unpack in August!! To everything that's going on at Inside Fashion, head on over to our website.
