In his debut album, HARZ dedicates himself to the old art of microsampling. Through clever and innovative use of his vintage 12bit-4kHz sampler, his 14 channel mixing console and self-entangled effect loops, HARZ creates an homage to the soundscape of early Clicks 'n' Cuts and Glitch. The album’s abstract downtempo groove stands out due to its hypnotic rhythms, which, combined with glitchy loops and seesaw vinyl noise, evoke a feeling of floating. As usual, every track is performed live without overdubs or subsequent editing.

The covers and posters were created and realized in collaboration with Formen. Parallel to HARZ’s music which uncovers the hidden details of tone and noise through microsampling, the cover shows a macro shot of a halftone print, thereby uncovering hidden textures of images.

The mastering was also done by Formen. Disregarding some minor digital adjustments, the album was mastered primarily with analog compressors, tube-EQs and Formen’s trusty reel-to-reel machine. This approach allowed for a strong emphasis on the warm texture that comes with HARZ’s music.

The album has been transferred to C-44 cassettes by our friends at Sinus Dub. This time we chose Type-II, meaning chrome tapes. Those are a bit more expensive than the usual Type-I cassettes but in return offer a higher dynamic range and a broader frequency spectrum, thus resulting in a better sound quality.
