  • The ECOWAS Commission successfully conducted its 2nd Meeting of the Regional Committee on the Implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) from September 17th to 19th, 2024, in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. This meeting was pivotal in assessing progress in implementing the AfCFTA across West Africa and fostering collaboration among Member States.Dr. Kalilou SYLLA highlighted that the AfCFTA represents a significant opportunity for economic integration and growth in Africa. Mr. Chukwuma ANOPUEME projected that this initiative could lift 50 million people out of poverty while increasing intra-African exports by up to 109% by 2035.Significant milestones were celebrated during this meeting, including Liberia’s recent ratification of the AfCFTA Agreement and Nigeria’s first shipments under the Guided Trade Initiative. Additionally, over 150 women traders have benefited from training through the ECOWAS-ITC SheTrades AfCFTA Project, reflecting a strong commitment to gender inclusivity.
