Simplify Things
04:49
|
|||
You ask me what I want to do tonight
I say, Honey take me out on the town
But when we get to browsin'
Where we'll do our carousin'
We always seem to have a break down...
Why quibble about where to dine?
You know I love haute cuisine
Why read me all the movie listings
When you know I prefer the opera scene
Let's simplify things
Lose all the complications
Let's simplify things
Clear up our situation
The tit for tat about this and that
Baby, it ruins my day
Let's simplify things
Let's do things my way
You want to go and play the ponies,
I'd rather put on a ball gown
You try to persuade me
When you know it just makes me
Want a girls' night with no men around
Why quibble about train or taxi?
I desire a hansom cab
Why groan about the princely prices
I know that you want to pick up the tab
chorus
I just want to make you blissful
Want to give you one big kissful
And there is just one thing, Baby
I would like you to do for me…
Let's simplify things
Lose all the complications
Let's simplify things
Clear up our situation
No more tit for tat about this or that
Baby, you’ll make my day
Let's simplify things
Yes, simplify things
Let’s simplify things
Let's do things my way

Flight of the Gargoyle
05:43
|
|||
In the hour after darkness falls,
Wait, quiet under cathedral walls.
If you turn your eyes up to the sky,
You may chance to see the gargoyle fly
Misty shadows and moonbeams
Children fill the night with dreams
Stone eyes will sparkle
Spreading wings under starlight
I’ve seen them fly
You have a cathedral heart inside
Vaults where love can soar in song and light
On the walls the gargoyle stands its guard
Silently watching over your heart
In the hour after darkness falls
I waited under your cathedral walls
When I turned my eyes up to your sky
I saw the wings, I saw the gargoyle fly
Misty shadows and moonbeams
We could fill the night with dreams
Sad eyes would sparkle
Spreading wings under starlight
And we could fly

Today, a cautionary tale - the secret life and death of Happy Stanley. Not the same Stanley you know. Not the Stanley anybody knows. On the other hand — we all have the acquaintance of someone like Stanley, we just don’t know it. Should you try to learn if this little story was fact or fiction, you would find that there is no witness willing to testify. But, I am quite certain it’s all true.
Happy Stanley always so polite
Turn a cheek, never put up a fight
Unremarkable from shoes to hat
Frequently mistaken for an old doormat
But Stanley was happy in a secret life
Like Walter Mitty his mind took flight
A limousine, a body guard to drive
Mastermind behind imaginary crimes
He’s a wise guy, those who mess with him
They get what they’ve got comin’ to them
But Stanley wouldn’t want another soul to know
He just wears a smile and doesn’t let it show
Takes good care that he don’t give it away
Don’t let it see the light of day
He’d hate to contemplate
Just what the neighbors would say
Consider Stanley, in his company coveralls. You see a meek man sweeping the halls. You don’t see the real Stanley at all. Because Stanley lives in a world of his mind, where he’s a man of grit, steel, and spine. A man who settles scores with anyone who’s crossed the line. Stanley’s boss is a condescending man always talking down to Stan, who smiles and tows the line…while an entirely different scenario is playing out in his mind.
Stanley’s boss found stiff, cops mystified
Stanley has an airtight alibi
Pleasant dreams for Stanley
His latest imaginary crime
Everybody has a secret life
A little Walter Mitty down deep inside
Fancy romance or murder and mayhem
But you would never guess it just looking at them
Stanley was content lost in thought behind his broom, that is until Miss Evelyn peeked into the room. In Stanley’s Walter Mitty world they made a perfect bride and groom. And while Evelyn worked on the second floor, Stanley would linger in the corridor, because in his reverie she longed to see him at her door. But Evelyn did not care for Stanley’s attention. And though it was nothing she’d ever mention - Oh, to fantasize a creepy guy’s demise…that was her penchant
Happy Stan found stiff, cops mystified
No witnesses to testify
Stanley’s on the business end
Of this imaginary crime
So if, my friend, you’ve got a secret life
A little Walter Mitty down deep inside
I think you better keep it locked up tight
Better if you never let it out in the light
