Fall Palm Show & Sale presented by the South Florida Palm Society
Take a look at our 2024 recap!
The South Florida Palm Society in 2024 celebrates its 40th Fall Show & Sale. This event has come a long way from its infancy -- a one-day sale sometime in the 1970s in the parking lot of a movie theater. As interest in palms burgeoned, members recognized that a better sale venue was warranted. Accordingly, in 1979 Fairchild Tropical Garden hosted the first Fall Palm Show & Sale, a two-day event with plants arrayed on tables just outside the Nell Montgomery Garden House. The next year, more space and less sun were needed, and the event’s location at the Garden was moved to the Montgomery Palmetum. Some years later, cycads were added to the offerings, due to their similarity to palms in many landscape settings.
Now the South Florida Palm Society offers hundreds of species of palms and cycads to the public. But this event is not just a sale. Throughout the weekend, the Society will operate an information center to provide advice for successfully raising your plants and to give away fresh seeds of a broad selection of species. And, of course, you will have the opportunity to take a leisurely walk around the grounds -- all 83 acres -- of Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden.
