CCare Changes People Lives. What a Fantastic Charity! CCare has without doubt become one of Melbourne’s biggest and best Jewish charities. Rabbi Shlomo Nathanson (Toorak and Port Melbourne synagogues) started CCare about 10 years ago delivering a few meals a week to Jews living in poverty. The average non Jew believes ALL Jews are rich. That is not correct. You will be shocked to know that about 30% live in poverty! All this week their huge Annual Campaign takes place where EVERY donation will be tripled by sponsors. CCare has some fantastic sponsors, some of the richest people in Australia. Donate $100 and you will be donating $400! CCare delivers 832 meals every week, delivers 1,088 pantry boxes a month and on average has 184 volunteers a week. Fanatstic. As a CCare ambassador, I am so happy to volunteer from time to time and make my annual significant donation. If you would like to donate and change people’s lives go the CCare web site next week and make a donation (whatever you can afford) and your donation will be tripled. Long Live CCare. What a fantastic organization and what a great success story! Do you have a favourite charity or good cause? I can’t remember the last time I went to a funeral where attendees were invited to bring flowers. It is now common for families to ask people to consider making a donation to a particular charity or cause instead of bringing flowers. It is estimated that last year around £100million was raised through funeral donations. To place this in context - the Children in Need appeal in 2023 raised £33.5million. So it is clear that funeral donations are an extremely important source of revenue for charities and good causes. People can put money in a collection box at the funeral itself, though it is now increasingly common to donate online using a memorial webpage. The main beneficiaries of funeral donations are local hospices or care providers who may have looked after somebody in their final weeks. Donations to medical research projects are also a popular choice. As more people are now planning for their own funeral it makes sense to consider potential charity donations alongside the choice of music and readings. It is World Kindness Day this week. 🚨 Trigger warning: child loss 🚨 My wife Jayne and I are extremely proud of the money we have raised in our son Joe's name since 2019. We are almost upto $400k AUD in total across several events from 5-a-side football (soccer) competitions, to Bunnings sausage sizzles, to charity walks, to marathons and of course the 24 hour spinathon events. Not only have these fundraising events raised money but they've also raised much needed awareness of the desperate need for funding for Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) across Australia. Did you know that upto 80% of funding for NICU equipment comes from charity donations! 🤯 Below is the promotional video for the 2nd 24 hour spinathon that we held in late 2022. Here we talked through what the $185K AUD raised in the 2019 event was spent on- namely a humidicrib and a portable Xray machine for the NICU. We also discussed what the funds raised in the 2022 event will be spent on- namely several research projects that aim to help future premature babies and their families. Look for future Linkedin posts for some exciting updates on this. Although we are proud of what we've achieved in Joe's memory so far, we know that there is so much more work to be done and as such we will continue to build on our son's legacy. If the money raised can prevent just one family having to go through the devastation of losing a child in future then all the time, effort and emotional toll that Jayne and I have gone through to raise it will be more than worth it. #childloss #grief #fundraising #workplacewellbeing
