Since the casino's opening in 2001, the Town of Hanover has received over $23 million in revenue from OLG for being a casino host community. We joined Hanover's annual Mayor's Top 10 Luncheon last week to learn more about OLG's impact on their community. Last year alone, the funds helped the town construct roads, rehabilitate trails and bridges, purchase an ice re-surfacer and provide a grant to the Rural Residency Program. We were glad to see first-hand how OLG is helping the people of Hanover #BringHomeTheWin.

As a non-profit leader and a self-proclaimed bleeding heart, I often reflect on the role advocacy should play in my work. The opinions I share have a ripple effect on the organization I represent, l’Équipe Entreprise, and the broader community we serve—adults living with mental illness in our social integration program, individuals facing food insecurity who rely on our frozen meals, and our valued partners. Today, however, I feel compelled to express my deep concern because it is my role to think about our program participants and community at large. Why? Chic Resto Pop, a vital organization in Montréal dedicated to addressing food insecurity that has served the community for 40+ years, had their funding rescinded by the government of Québec despite being allocated funding by the Government of Canada for a critical $700,000 project aimed at feeding non-autonomous adults in the community. This is due to a lesser-known law requiring provincial permission to accept federal funds representing a certain percentage of an organization`s income. I am not a lawyer, a politician, or a representative of this organization, and I will not pretend to understand what has gone on here on a firsthand basis. I am, however, one of many non-profit workers who sees the impacts of haphazard decision-making on those who are made most vulnerable. The non-profits I am surrounded by are being called to come up with creative solutions to systemic problems, with increasing limitations around public funding, that make supporting the community an increasingly unsustainable venture. It`s worth saying again. Non-profits are called to come up with creative solutions to social and systemic problems with increasingly limited public funding and it is unsustainable. It is critical to understand the unsustainability of this approach. When decisions like these are made without regard for the hundreds of individuals and families affected, individuals and families go hungry. I would venture to say that most food security organizations would not be able to continue operating in 2024 without the generosity of private foundations and funders, and yet, various governmental bodies continue to make decisions that negatively impact organizations and individuals that are on the frontline and working to creatively meet real-time needs, like making sure that folks don`t go to bed with an empty belly. Ultimately, I urge you to consider organizations like Chic Resto Pop and your local food security organizations who are often in the news, shouting from the rooftops, for support. At the end of the day, we all just want to fill empty bellies. And we are exhausted. https://lnkd.in/g9brY9Dc

For those of you who live outside of Spain, I don't know what kind of news you'll be getting about what happened in Valencia and its surroundings. I really don't want to get into politics, but all spanish people know that it hasn't been managed well from the first day. In the areas affected by the extreme rainfall, neighbors didn't receive an emergency message on their mobiles in time about what was about to happen. They received it when people were already dying or were trapped in the water on the streets. How is that possible in a country like Spain in 2024? 𝐌𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝗜𝐍 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧. Help or enough help was not sent by the Generalitat Valencia when it had already happened. The first ones who were helping and who continue to help were the citizens, the people themselves. It's a shame what has happened. I'm tired of seeing how friends have been cleaning streets for days and on top of that they have difficulties getting to certain areas, how they have gone to areas to help even though their areas were fine. Friends who have travelled from other cities like Madrid to help. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲, 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀? 𝗜 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀. The whole town is helping, in one way or another, and what are the Generalitat Valenciana and the government doing? If you want to collaborate in the cause, here are different links. If you want to collaborate in something more specific, you can write me privately and I will provide you with more links. Our UCAN centres’ opening hours will change for July and August. From September, the way we offer some UCAN services could change as part of a review to ensure we’re focusing our resources where our customers need them most. ➡️ Summer opening hours From 1 July to 30 August, our UCAN centres will have new opening hours. These allow our teams to support free holiday activities for children and families in our neighbourhoods, and the BL Lunches project, which provides packed lunches for school age children over the summer break: Deane UCAN Centre: Tuesday, 9:30am to 3:00pm, and Wednesday morning only, 9:30am to 12:00 noon. New Bury UCAN Centre: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 9.30am to 3:00pm. Tonge Moor UCAN Centre: Monday and Thursday, 9:30am to 3:00pm. Withins UCAN Centre: Tuesday, 9:30am to 3:00pm, and Thursday morning only, 9:30am to 12:00 noon. All centres will close for lunch between noon and 12:30pm. Our Pop-Up UCAN centres will also be available throughout the summer. More details here: https://lnkd.in/egt2UhQD. ➡️ Possible changes ahead We’re reviewing all our UCAN centres and Pop-Up UCAN centres to ensure they continue to provide the best outcomes. One reason is the ongoing financial challenges across the social housing sector. Because of this, we’re reviewing services to ensure we can continue prioritising repairing and improving homes, building new homes, and bringing empty homes back into use. Another reason is the changing way people contact us and use our services. Lots of UCAN centre users now prefer phone or online methods, especially since the pandemic. Low footfall was the main reason we closed our Johnson Fold UCAN Centre earlier this year, and it’s also why we’ve decided to close our Brazley Pop-Up UCAN Centre from now. ➡️ What might change? Our aim is to ensure our support is where it’s needed most and that our tenants get the most benefit from our UCAN service. As we go through our review, there are still decisions to be made. It’s possible that our network of UCAN centres and Pop-Up centres might change a bit in terms of when and where we’re open. We’re also considering expanding our network by opening a new UCAN centre in Bolton town centre, which could be a convenient location for many of our tenants. ➡️ Our commitment to customers We remain dedicated to providing a warm welcome and personalised support. From our UCAN venues, you can continue to expect a range of services: • help in finding employment, • free use of the internet and computers, and phone, • training courses, • access to social activities and community groups, • assistance with housing issues and benefits, • health and wellbeing support and advice, • support with money matters. ➡️ Your feedback matters We value customer feedback. If you’ve any comments, concerns, or suggestions, please email us at [email protected] or phone us on 01204 328000. We’ll keep you updated on any further changes after the summer.

The recent floods in areas of Comunidad Valenciana have brought extreme devastation claiming lives, displacing families, and causing extensive property damage. While the nation’s emergency services are tirelessly working to mitigate the impact, the ongoing rains and risk of further flooding mean that sustained support is essential. Please, help my people, flood victims and survivors, in any of these different ways to contribute to relief efforts: Donate to Trusted Organizations: Financial contributions can have a direct impact, providing essential resources like food, water, and medical supplies. The Spanish Red Cross is a reliable option for donations as they are actively involved in on-ground relief efforts. Donations to other reputable charities operating in Spain can also help fund immediate assistance for those affected. https://lnkd.in/dxMQFJVz Participate in Local or International Fundraisers: Many organizations and communities are organizing fundraisers to support flood victims in Spain. Participating in these events or creating your own fundraiser can help raise awareness and financial support. Spread Awareness: Sharing verified information and donation links through social media can help raise awareness and encourage others to contribute. Spreading knowledge about the situation in Spain ensures that more people are aware of the need for support. Volunteer with Emergency Response Organizations: If you are in Spain or nearby and have relevant skills, volunteering with organizations like the Red Cross or other local NGOs can be a great way to assist directly. Many agencies welcome the help of those trained in medical assistance, logistics, and search and rescue.

Merci https://lnkd.in/eBPg6kCa
