This incident has brought the issue of school threats in the digital age to the forefront, particularly in Arizona, a state that has seen a troubling uptick in such incidents.   ABC 15's Ford Hatchet spook with school security experts who say the have expected the increase at schools across the state, many starting as jokes and dares, but ending in serious charges. Federal defense attorney Josh Kolsrud, with 14 years of prosecutorial experience—including handling cases involving threats from one state to another—emphasized the gravity of these situations. When threats cross state lines, they inevitably attract federal attention, making the FBI a key player in the investigation and response. Kolsrud's insights highlight the complexity and severity of dealing with threats in today’s interconnected world, where what starts as a mere "joke" can rapidly spiral into a major national security concern.   The case in Phoenix is not isolated, with ABC 15's Ford Hatchet documenting a worrying pattern of more than a dozen threats across the Valley and additional threats in regions like Yuma, Globe, and beyond. The recent indictment of Sean "Diddy" Combs on sex crime charges, including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, has drawn comparisons to the case of Robert Sylvester Kelly, also known as R. Kelly. Both cases involve famous musicians accused of sex crimes by federal prosecutors in New York City. In both cases, prosecutors relied on a novel use of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act to indict them, alleging that they used their power and fame to wield resources, businesses, and people to commit crimes and cover them up. The case against Combs, like that of Kelly, centers on an enterprise, with Combs as its leader. The enterprise includes various businesses and employees, including security and household staff. The key distinction between the two cases is that Combs has not been accused of wrongdoing against minors, whereas Kelly was convicted of child pornography and enticement of a minor. The charges against Combs are serious, and his defense strategy may focus on the question of consent. What would it look like if the Supreme Court interpreted the 13th Amendment banning slavery in the same way that the 2nd Amendment has been turned into a shill for gun rights? Let's take a look. Here's the actual 13th Amendment: "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction." Here's what the conservative Supreme Court version of the 13th Amendment would look like if the same legal tactics removed language inconvenient to its ideological motives: "Slavery or involuntary servitude shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction." The Supreme Court arrived at the idea that unmitigated gun rights should exist in America by ignoring and/or removing language interfering with the claim that "the right to bear arms shall not be infringed." Discarding the phrase "A well-regulated militia, being necessary for the security of a free state..." is wrong because the concept of a "militia" still applies when a citizenry heavily armed with weapons capable of military aims resides in the country. That means the nation can only achieve the 'security of a free state' if people owning guns aren't allowed to wield them openly in public because that poses a direct threat to all others in society. The role of a "militia" applies during a "call to arms" in the event of a foreign invasion. The notion that the citizenry requires arms to guard against governmental tyranny is popular among conservatives, but the J6, 2020 insurrection reversed that proposition and exposed that lie and the tyrannical Big Lie of a stolen election driving it. People should be able to keep and bear arms in their homes for self-defense. But carrying guns around in public is a breach of constitutional rights for those who choose not to arm themselves in public. This is consistent with other Bill of Rights governance, such as freedom of religion. People are free to worship as they please, but American citizens also have the right not to engage in religion. The Separation Clause clearly states there shall be no state religion. Neither should there be a 'state' gun requirement to experience the full benefits of freedom. A "well-regulated militia" should imitate a military base where weapons are never carried around when not on duty. That brings us to the 13th Amendment and a form of involuntary servitude implemented through Jim Crow laws. Much of American society implemented a state of virtual servitude by using codes, laws, and violence to suppress Black Americans' rights. Whenever the rights of one populace are emphasized to the detriment of another, the goals of the Founding authors are corrupted and perverted. The result is inequality and the destruction of democratic governance.

#StatecraftInTheNews: House Republicans released a report criticising the Joe Biden administration for the chaotic 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal, blaming it for prioritising optics over security. Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX) led the investigation, claiming the administration ignored warnings of the Taliban's rapid advances and failed to plan for a safe evacuation. The report downplayed former President Donald Trump’s role, despite his 2020 deal with the Taliban to withdraw US forces by May 2021. Biden inherited the withdrawal timeline and chose to end the 20-year war. White House spokesperson Sharon Yang dismissed the report, calling it “cherry-picked” and blaming Trump’s deal for leaving Biden in an “untenable position.” Earlier reports have highlighted systemic failures across four administrations, with both Biden and Trump sharing significant blame for the collapse. The report does not hold VP Kamala Harris directly accountable, despite elevating her role as a Biden adviser in the lead-up to the withdrawal. The war’s end saw the Taliban retake Afghanistan, ending a two-decade US mission aimed at dismantling al-Qaeda, which was behind the 9/11 attacks. The GOP report leaves Trump largely unscathed, despite his role in cutting US troops and initiating the withdrawal deal, shifting blame to diplomats like Zalmay Khalilzad.
