In our latest Dectech #Buzz, we've taken a look at the topic of synthetic data. Running large-scale surveys and experiments takes time, skill, and financial resources. Wouldn't it be great if you could side-step all of that and just generate your data using an LLM? Data provocation. I like that term. Although it has multiple meanings, in the context of my work and my beliefs, we should be reacting strongly to the clear provocation by many, many organisations out there with poor data practices, knowledge, data respect and with no plans to address or contemplate the ethical issues surrounding the data usage. We had some fantastic presentations at Privacy Space yesterday... all highlighting that we have the skills and knowledge to be provacteurs.... we (the data protection people) have to provoke the revulsion at the way data is collated and used, we have to provoke sufficient anger in consumers so that they help drive the way data is used towards a transparent and trustworthy manner. Now I get that many companies are not aiming to provoke and try and do things with good intent... but ignorance is itself a provocation..... Data provocation. It's time. 🙏👊 Have a great weekend peeps. More on this next week. I'll leave you with what someone has termed... my James Bond pose. Two days and two AI and Data conferences. What I don't know about the topics now isn't worth knowing......Uh, not really, every day's a school day for me!! Thanks to Dave Hackett of The Information Lab for the invite and congrats on the presentation with David Keyes of PHX Ireland. A real life example of how data and analytics can move the needle for businesses. It's refreshing to see a customer come on stage with their delivery partner. Obvious sign of great collaboration and joint success. I was thinking after there might be an interesting solution related to Audit and Compliance for PHX we should catch up on that Dave Hackett !! Also great to see an old friend Dr Kenneth McKenzie (The Dock) and legend in their field deliver an honest look at how we need to think about how the revolution of AI is viewed by the Workforce versus Execs. Some responsibility for us all to tread carefully. So many other great speakers. Loved the Little Red Data Hen and Scott Taylor's talk. Process Transformation is key to what we do at MOAT and I noticed it featured in Carl Kinson from DXC Technology UKI. Applying AI or automation to a bad process is not going to go well. Aaand breathe… It has been a hectic week, with two big conferences to attend, both of which were great, though left an interesting Friday of catch up!… I will post more about both events individually, but here is a brief summary DatacenterDynamics On Tuesday and Wednesday. A great opportunity to catch up with colleagues from the Data Centre(er) community, see what new tech is hitting the market and catch some interesting talks. My favoured talks from day 1 were - Can the Industry decarbonise whilst scaling for AI Can Data Centres really prove themselves to be good neighbours? I was only able to attend day 1 as both events overlapped by a day. Apologies to those who I missed opportunities to catch up with. Big Data LDN On Wednesday and Thursday Another great opportunity to catch up with colleagues, many of efficiency travelling from far to attend, see new tech and vendors in the Data market, and an abundance of interesting talks to catch. My favourites - Data is the new Bullsh*t Mixed Model Arts - The Convergence of Data Modelling Across Apps, Analytics and AI Great British Data Founders Panel The High Performance Data Debate It was great to bring the Business Critical Solutions (BCS) message to those I spoke with, particularly at #BDL where many of those I spoke to appreciated the “closing the loop, by using Data, to optimise the delivery of Data Centres(ers), which provide the infrastructure for Data platforms, that facilitate Data for optimisation. #DCD #BDL2024 #Data #DataOptimisation #DeliveryIntelligence

One of the hot topics on the lips of those close to the AI space is Agent AI or, as some in the industry are calling it, Agentic AI. For me, Agent based AI systems are a hugely exciting opportunity to really scale how we apply AI within organisations in a way that is cost and time effective, manageable and gives us the opportunity to truly optimise businesses processes through the embedding of various forms of AI agents to solve specific elements of complex tasks. In this model we are not just thinking of converstional AI's but AI's of many different types including ML, Optimisation, Automation, Monitoring, Security and other functional agents. Many of the frameworks available on the market are solely considering the big foundational models alongside small language models but in reality the value comes when those models are able to trigger other types of agents to execute a specific function and for them to process the response. The challenges we will face in this new Agent AI landscape will include, as a primary element, then need to design a consistent communication framework so that agents developed in one platform or technology, will be able to integrate and "talk to" agents developed elsewhere, as well as an effective monitoring mechanism across the ecosystem deployed to identify any agents not performing as expected and trigger alerts to take relevant actions (actions by other agents or humans). It's a fast evolving space and I'd be excited to hear what others think or are doing here too. Fundamentally Mutinex is moving towards championing model governance. It's something we believe in doing and increasingly have been front-foot on. Model quality is important. Increasingly we are focusing on these sorts of metrics when we model to better assess our overall model performance. Definitely worth a read if you want to assess how to govern models properly and how to make sure models do what they say on the tin. A couple of thoughts on Day 2 at Big Data LDN. Found myself in a few seminars on driving business value and transformation. Two themes covered across multiple seminars: ➡ Business value should be the north star, with a focus across people, process, and capabilities. Having a clear roadmap ensures that investments in data and AI deliver measurable outcomes, whether in customer satisfaction, operational improvements, or regulatory adherence (or all three!). ➡ The AI-Enabled era...we’ve moved through the Cloud-Enabled era (which giving us digital and agility benefits) and Data-Enabled era (giving us modern data stacks) and are now heading into the AI-Enabled period. This brings together digital transformation, agility, and modern data stacks, allowing businesses to unlock new levels of efficiency and innovation. If you're going to sell data, #Price is one aspect you need to nail from the outset. In my experience, the most important thing to understand is what value the data drives for various use-cases alongside & in conjunction with other inputs. In other words, don't be pricing your data like it's the flour in the bread recipe when it's really just the pinch of salt.
