Last quarter, in order to defend their #ICE sales decline, #BigAuto #gaslighted us with slower and softer #EV sales. Now, they present their EVs at the #Paris Motor Show and tell us that, "We may be getting close to a tipping point” for EV demand, Thierry Koskas, who heads Stellantis’ Citroen brand, told reporters at the Paris auto show on Oct. 14." So my question is; which one is it? Or have we had such a sales revolution in the last quarter that all of a sudden everything's changed? However, #Europe has to do a lot better. Today, I shared news of the new $11k #Geely #Geome. At the same time, Europe is touting entry-level $25-30k cars. Not even close. https://shorturl.at/4nsFD https://lnkd.in/g_3qBbwg

[NEWS] Stellantis strikes back after dealer outcry: The automaker pushed back against dealers in response to a scathing open letter from its National Dealer Council. The letter’s biggest accusation? CEO Carlos Tavares is leading the company into “disaster.” Calling the letter a “public personal attack,” Stellantis said dealers should have these kinds of conversations behind closed doors. The automaker also defended its strategy — sales were up 20%+ MoM in Aug. Meanwhile, dealers claim these same policies have caused market share losses, layoffs, and a falling stock price. Bottom line: Tensions between dealers and OEMs are nothing new, but rarely are they so public. As dealers struggle to keep the faith — the automaker’s uphill battle just got steeper… Read today’s full car market analysis, presented by Edmunds: https://lnkd.in/gjJzwD6M (Data source: Reuters)

If you had any doubt about #STELLANTIS' commitments to reduce its #CO2 emissions and to achieve it's Carbon Net Zero target before the end of the next decade.... The #CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) rules have been known for at least 7 years. As a former responsible for achieving the #CAFE objectives of #PSA Group then #STELLLANTIS in Europe, I remember working on the 2025 scenario earlier 2017. It would indeed be senseless to change the rules of the game now and thus to accept that European manufacturers give up their objectives for reducing #CO2 emissions. #CarbonRemoval #carbon #decarbonization #decarbonisation #carboncapture https://lnkd.in/e6EDaNbn

The Renault 5 E-Tech Electric: Probably the Coolest Model Rebirth Legacy is often seen as a burden, but Renault has turned it into an advantage. The new Renault 5 doesn’t just pay homage to its past—it leverages it. This new Renault 5 addresses today’s needs while maintaining the character of a legend. You don’t need to know anything about its past to appreciate it, but for enthusiasts, there are plenty of hidden gems that will truly excite. Renault has masterfully blended nostalgia with innovation. As for the HMI, I’m undecided. The steering wheel seems solid, similar to the Scenic, and I appreciate the gear selector as a lever—it frees up space on the central console, which is always a plus. However, I need to experience it firsthand to fully understand the interactions. The separation in z-axis seems well-designed, allowing for independent operation of gears and wipers, which is crucial. I suspect, though, that its position might block some of the user interface. I miss the climate controls of the Clio, and I believe that a display with more height would be advantageous for features such as navigation. I speculate that design lines were a priority, which is often the case, and understandable for such a model. Overall, I find Renault’s approach to model revival very relevant and refreshing.

Pieter Demaeght Interesting insights on the EV charging landscape in France. Here’s my take on how it compares to the current situation in Spain: Infrastructure Development: Like France, Spain has seen an acceleration in the deployment of public EV charging points, but it’s been somewhat slower. One key factor is the regional disparities, with larger cities like Madrid and Barcelona advancing faster than rural areas. The Spanish government is pushing to catch up, with significant investments aimed at expanding infrastructure nationwide, may be not enough. Charging Providers: While Powerdot dominates the fast-charging market in France, in Spain, Iberdrola is a major player, along with other companies like Endesa and Repsol. Many of them are similarly focusing on destination charging, but Spain is also working to improve coverage along highways to encourage long-distance EV travel. Tesla’s Strategy: Tesla’s emphasis on highway charging is mirrored in Spain as well, with a growing Supercharger network strategically placed along major routes. However, the charging network for non-Tesla vehicles on highways still needs more development, particularly in remote areas. Tesla has opened its net to all user, which is fantastic news. Provider Variety: Like in France, Spain’s EV charging landscape is fragmented, with numerous providers. This leads to similar challenges for users, as navigating between different apps, cards, and subscriptions can be cumbersome. There is a growing call for standardization to simplify access. Customer Experience: The user experience remains a crucial area for improvement in Spain. While progress is being made, much more needs to be done to streamline the charging process, ensuring drivers can easily find, access, and pay for charging points without dealing with multiple platforms. Are these trends similar in other EU countries? I’m curious to hear what’s happening in other regions.

AMSTERDAM – Stellantis N.V. (“Stellantis” or the “Company”) announced today that pursuant to its Share #Buyback Program (or the “Program”) announced on February 15, 2024, covering up to €3 billion (total purchase price excluding ancillary costs) to be executed in the open market, Stellantis has signed a share buyback agreement for the third tranche of its Program with an investment firm that will make its trading decisions concerning the timing of purchases independently of Stellantis. This agreement will cover a maximum amount of up to €1 billion (of the €3 billion Share Buyback Program). The third tranche of the Program shall start on August 1, 2024, and end no later than November 29, 2024. The Company intends to cancel the common shares acquired through its €3 billion Share Buyback Program apart from a portion of up to €0.5 billion, which will be utilized to execute future employee stock purchase plan activities and equity-based compensation. This is intended to support the benefits of expanding and strengthening the ownership culture inside Stellantis, while avoiding dilution of existing shareholders. The buyback of common shares in relation to this announcement will be carried out under the authority granted by the general meeting of shareholders held on April 16, 2024, up to a maximum of 10% of the Company’s capital, or any renewed or extended authorization to be granted at a future general meeting of the Company. The purchase price per common share will be no higher than an amount equal to 110% of the market price of the shares on the NYSE, Euronext Milan or Euronext Paris (as the case may be). The market price will be calculated as the average of the highest price on each of the five days of trading prior to the date on which the acquisition is made, as shown in the official price list of the NYSE, Euronext Milan or Euronext Paris. The share buybacks will be carried out subject to market conditions and in compliance with applicable rules and regulations, including the Market Abuse Regulation 596/2014 and the Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2016/1052. As of today, the remaining authorization stands at approximately 246 million shares and the Company held in treasury a total of 81,500,174 common shares equal to 2.10% of the total issued share capital including common shares and special voting shares.

This is an interesting development... Renault Group is taking a distinct path amongst OEMs by focusing on public transportation solutions, notably with plans to run a driverless minibus service at the 2024 Roland-Garros tennis tournament in Paris. The deployment is part of a collaboration between Renault Group and autonomous driving tech firm WeRide. During the tournament, from May 26th to June 9th, the two companies will deploy self-driving minibuses which will ferry passengers between a designated car park and the Roland-Garros stadium complex. By partnering with WeRide , Renault aims to harness specialized expertise in deploying autonomous technologies effectively in public transit. Also the company plans to offer a modular platform based on the New Renault Master, which could integrate automation solutions from various specialist partners like ensuring adaptability and catering to the specific needs of different regions and municipalities. The shift towards mass transit solutions addresses the practical and urgent needs of urban centers, particularly in managing emissions in low-emission zones. The Renault Group has been conducting trials for several years, including the "Mach 2 project" that was announced back in 2023. This project envisions the integration of a fleet of autonomous electric minibuses into the public transportation network of Chateauroux Metropole, France, starting in 2026.

Shanzhai in reverse ? → Stellantis will distribute Leapmotor electric vehicles in Europe starting September 2024. → The joint venture, Leapmotor International, is majority-owned by Stellantis (51%). → Initial launch countries include Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and Romania. → Plans to establish 200 sales outlets by the end of 2024, expanding to over 500 by 2026. → The move leverages Stellantis’ extensive retail distribution network and Leapmotor’s BEV technology. → Further expansion planned for South America, the Middle East, Africa, and the Asia Pacific by late 2024. → The collaboration raises questions about the adoption of the “copycat” or “Shanzhai” strategy, as Stellantis aligns with a Chinese EV manufacturer. → It took decades of Shanzhai by Chinese auto companies to learn and innovate. Will Western automakers flip the script and play the other side ? 🤔 Source: https://lnkd.in/eFbfcTvH, https://lnkd.in/ewnF_Xt6 #AutomotiveIndustry #EVs #Stellantis #Leapmotor #Innovation #Shanzhai

The auto market saw plugin #EVs at 24.3% share in #France in April 2024, growing from 21.1% year on year. Full electric volume was up by a strong 45% YoY, while plugin hybrid volume was flat. Overall auto volume was 146,979 units, up 11% YoY, though remaining below 2017–2019 seasonal norms (~185,000). The #Peugeot e-208 was once again the best selling full electric vehicle. April saw combined plugin EVs at 24.3% share in France, with full battery electrics (#BEVs) at 16.9% and plugin hybrids (#PHEVs) at 7.4%. These compare with respective YoY figures of 21.1% combined, with 12.9% BEV and 8.2% PHEV. BEVs climbed in volume to 24,884 units, from 17,112 year on year, a growth of 44.9%. This outperformed the overall market, which was up 11% YoY. Much of the overall auto growth was likely due to the incidence of Easter holidays, which gave the month of April two more auto selling days in 2024 compared to 2023 (11% more selling days). The strong growth of BEVs outweighed the flat YoY volume of PHEVs, and the consequent decreased PHEV market share. Year to date, BEVs have grown volume by 28% compared to the same period last year. This is in part due to the subsidised social leasing scheme for BEVs, which saw double the volume expected (50,000 leases in total). The push for new leasing contracts was closed off around mid February, but deliveries of those leased vehicles are still playing out, and have boosted the April figures. On the other hand, the cutting of eco-bonus incentives to all BEVs made outside of #Europe — which came into effect from March 15th — is weighing on BEV volumes. Former top 10 favourites like the #Tesla Model 3, #Dacia Spring, #Kia Niro, and #MG4 (amongst many others) are all now personas non grata in France, and are facing relative hangover. The stop-gap technologies of #HEVs and mild hybrids have also seen sales growth YoY, and have likewise taken share away from combustion-only vehicles. Diesel’s share was down to 7.7%, from 10.5% year on year. Best Selling BEVs The Peugeot e-208 was once again the best selling BEV of the month in April, with 3,185 units registered, roughly in line with its average monthly volumes in Q1. Its larger sibling, the Peugeot e-2008, took second place with 2,164 units, and the #Renault Twingo came in third with 1,842 units. The Tesla Model 3 fell 4 spots to 11th, the #Volvo EX30 fell 10 spots to 18th, and the MG4 fell 10 spots to 19th. Built outside Europe, April was the first month that these popular models have been excluded from the eco-bonus purchase incentive — thus the fall in sales and ranking. The volume of each was roughly a third of what it was in March. I don’t currently have model sales data beyond the top 20, but the Dacia Spring, Kia Niro, and other formerly popular models that are built outside Europe likely suffered similar volume drops.

A new European regulation, R117-04, came into force on July 1st of this year, proposing a test for used passenger tires 🛞 👏 Here’s why Michelin supports the new regulation. And why it matters, to everyone. Beyond guaranteeing increased road safety, the demanding test is a real win-win: it responds to the challenges of preserving not only the planet, but also the purchasing power of European motorists, saving them some 7 billion euros per year, collectively. Studies teach us important lessons. For example: premature dismantling of tires can produce emissions equivalent to six month’s worth of New York City’s emissions—35 million tons of CO2. These effects are quite significant. For example, we also learned that when stopping on wet ground, it is possible for a worn Michelin tire designed to deliver very good performance over time, to brake an average 3.4 m shorter than a new competitor tire. Three meters that can make a huge difference. Our support for the new regulation is in line with our Michelin commitment to providing long-lasting tire performance, from the first to the last mile, while focusing on the objectives of user safety and environmental friendliness, established in our Group DNA.
