The ambulance service could previously "red flag" the address of someone with Addison's and adrenal insufficiency to highlight they were at risk of adrenal crisis. Ambulance trusts have now moved away from this approach following the introduction of the Standalone Ambulance Guidelines on Steroid Dependency. How does a boy from Dubbo join the NSW Police Force in 1990 and rise to the rank of Superintendent as the Commander of the Homicide Squad for 6 years, then the Assistant Commissioner of Counter Terrorism then lead the Recovery Strikeforce for the South Coast Fires in 2019/2020 after being asked to "Turbo Charge" the Recovery Strikeforce by Commissioner of Police Mick Fuller, on New Years Day. Michael Willing APM GAICD brought a level of leadership and coordination that had never been seen before for a level of disaster that had never been contemplated after the fires destroyed over 2000 homes and disrupted the lives of whole communities. Mick is also a Harvard Business School Graduate, having the privilege to receive lectures from the world Change Management Expert and Guru, John Kotter (so jealous). Mick was then promoted to Deputy Commissioner and interviewed for the role of Commissioner of Police. He was nominated as the preferred candidate for the role of Commissioner of Police by one Premier, but a change in Premier saw him loose the nomination and shortly after loose his job completely. The interview will leave you in awe of the dignity and professionalism of Mick Willing after this challenge created new opportunities for the next chapter of Mick Willing's life. A common theme in Mick's chat in this interview, is that all leaders are essentially the same, it's just the situations and arenas they work in that changes, and how they lead in those arenas. CHARITY PARTNER UPDATE: Destiny Rescue 68 Rescued from Human Traffickers at the Nepal Border Border agents stopped traffickers from luring 68 people out of Nepal. Nearly three-quarters of the victims met their traffickers online, mostly on Facebook. The criminals built relationships with their targets and then, after figuring out their needs, offered them romantic relationships, false jobs or even trips to see relatives who lived across the border. It seems the UK’s Conservative Party are bound to lose the General Election, regardless of when in the year they call it. Damage limitation is now the name of the game. But, the question remains: who stands to benefit? National College Australia RTO ID 91000 (NCA) acknowledges PTSD Awareness Day. 5%-10% of all Australians experience PTSD. Alarmingly, Defence Force Veterans, First Responders and Sexual Abuse Survivors are among cohorts who experience higher rates. According to Phoenix Australia, the symptoms of PTSD can include: "... reliving the event through unwanted memories, flashbacks or nightmares, avoiding places, people or activities that bring back the event, having negative emotions such as fear, anger, guilt or numbness, being constantly alert for danger, being easily startled and taking risks." Phoenix Australia has provided the following tips for recovering from trauma: - Recognise you have been through something awful, and give yourself permission to feel how you feel, but also remember your strengths and have confidence that you will get through it. - Rest, even if you can't sleep, eat nutritious meals and exercise. Physical and mental health are linked. - Plan your days and schedule at least one pleasurable or meaningful activity for each. - Avoid making major life decisions in the weeks after the event. But make as many small decisions as you can to restore your feeling of control. - If you are still having difficulties more than two weeks after the event, contact your GP for further help. We've spent time over the weekend, reading and listening to information and debate around this Government's first Budget. We do not envy the task of having to detail how the Government intends to fix the many problems the country faces but they owe it to the electorate to do so. Relevant parts of the #Budget2024 for families with children of SEND included: 1. An additional £1billion for SEND, 2. Increases in funding for schools and colleges, 3. An increase to support for #breakfastclubs, 4. Changes to eligibility for #CarersAllowance. However, as the families we work with are acutely aware, money is not the answer to all of their problems. Money is useless unless spent in the right way and the above changes fall short of what is needed to truly solve the #SENDCrisis. Education Law Experts call for change which: 1.Ensures that children needing additional support are properly and efficiently identified; 2. That the system between health, social care and education works in a way which is joined-up and effective provision is put in place which meets the needs of children and young people with SEND; 3. Increases the number of specialist school and college placements for those who require it whilst ensuring that changes are made to ensure mainstream schools and colleges can be inclusive and meet the needs of their full cohort; 4. Reforms the legal framework in a way which improves accountability when failures occur. We hope that one day families do not have to fight so hard but, in the meantime, we will continue the relentless work alongside the families of children with SEND to try and ensure that children receive the education they are legally entitled to.

I’d say my calling to serve as a police member of staff and an officer stemmed from a deep-rooted desire to help others, whether that be safeguarding the vulnerable or witnessing individuals go through their toughest moments. Reflecting on growing up, I always recalled stories from my parents and grandparents that highlighted their respect for the police and how they would often remark on the lack of female officers. I love my day job and decided I wanted to do something extra - so when I heard that you could be a Volunteer Police Officer I jumped at the chance! I also am passionate about the work BTP is doing to make us a more inclusive force.   𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐚 𝐮𝐬𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐮𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞?  Not sure if there is a "usual" shift! It's all about getting stuck in and involved, from dealing with fare evasion, football to assaults and even the more serious incidents such as persons in crisis. It is always interesting as you never know what the shift is going to present but after every shift there is a real sense of accomplishment that I have made a positive difference to someone's life.   𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧 𝐮𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐈 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲?  The British Transport Police is a fantastic Police Force, with a real sense of belonging. Surrey City Council will receive the 2023 Annual Consolidated Financial Report at tonight’s council meeting (May 6, 2024), which shows a surplus of nearly $90M for overall policing operations. It’s important to consider key facts when looking at how the City funded policing in 2023. In Nov 2022, the Board submitted a budget of $157.6M that was neither accepted nor rejected by council. Instead, council allocated $48.75M to SPS, assuming their request to stop the policing transition would receive provincial approval, and SPS would not exist by mid-2023. The Board’s budget for 2023 was based on planned growth for SPS and included 609 sworn officers, 60 new recruits and 94 civilians. The Board was forced to stop hiring in the absence of a proper budget, and 2023 became a status quo year for head count. The full policing operations budget for the City has a surplus of nearly $90M. This is for three reasons: 1.      SPS paused hiring in 2023 due to a lack of clarity on the budget 2.      RCMP were below anticipated strength in 2023 3.      The $89.5M allocated to ‘wind down’ SPS was not required The City’s audited financials clearly show the City’s costs for policing were contained within its overall policing budget. Unfortunately, the City continues to state that SPS was $22M over-budget, despite only funding SPS for half of 2023. The 2023 budget is currently under review by the Director of Police Services. The Surrey Police Board and SPS are committed to remaining fiscally responsible during and after this legislated policing transition, however a full 12-month budget is required for SPS each year. The AFP is celebrating the achievements of it's National DNA Program. The AFP has helped resolve 19 missing persons cases since the National DNA Program for Unidentified and Missing Persons started in 2020. The AFP-led National DNA Program was established to work with state and territory police, along with coronial and forensic agencies, to resolve cold cases of unidentified and missing persons. During the four years of the program’s operation, forensic testing was done on 99 unidentified remains – some discovered by law enforcement, some long held by coroners and some provided by members of the public. The Australian-first initiative initiative enhanced collaboration between the AFP, state and territory police, along with coronial and forensic agencies to resolve cold cases of unidentified and missing persons.
