🔦 This enlightening investigation into what remains for me a very exciting project, and one of the most ambitious I have seen in terms of circularity in a highly criticized and very complex sector: fashion and footwear. What we learn here is that creating a global circular loop, which remains 👟 environmentally friendly, 👟 socially just, 👟 logistically realistic, 👟 affordable in terms of price and value for the consumer, 😵 is extremely difficult to achieve ! And nobody cracked it yet except a couple of brands who were built circular by design like #Patagonia, but are they finally really fully circular without a proper take back scheme ? The booming luxury market we witnessed from 2021 to 2023 has come to a noticeable pause this year. Today, we’re sharing FashionUnited’s recent interview with Mercedes Erra and Clément Boisseau of BETC answering the question: Who is the luxury consumer now, in 2024, in the context of the pandemic? BETC, which has worked with LVMH, Kering, CHANEL, Richemont, and L'Oréal, conducted a study of 1,800 “prosumers” (proactive and predictive consumers) across the nine largest consumer countries to define luxury consumption since 2020.  What they’ve confirmed is the shift in attitudes from pre-pandemic “luxury shame” to a post-pandemic rise in the desirability of luxury goods as investment items – Hermès and CELINE bags and ROLEX watches, for example. The study also confirmed that luxury is linked to sustainability in the minds of consumers, who are increasingly becoming sensitive to the effects of climate change. Additionally, the boom of virtual communication and social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok helped promote luxury products to the younger generations, who strive to emulate the celebrities and affluent lifestyles they see online. Brands like Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton have branched into entertainment – an example of how luxury fashion brands are pursuing experiential initiatives, creating full lifestyles for their consumers. This was a great, succinct feature detailing why, and how, the modern luxury consumer has evolved, and we’re looking forward to seeing if the market will be back on the upswing in the near future. #consumerinsights #consumertrends #luxury #marketanalysis #retail

Retailers are taking a cautious approach to GenAI due to concerns about data privacy, security, biases, and inaccuracies. Consumers worry about being deceived or manipulated by businesses using AI, but they are more comfortable with AI analyzing certain types of personal data. LVMH has been strategically deploying AI in inventory management and demand forecasting, but it must use AI responsibly and in a way that aligns with its values. "New" Economy turning "Old": Facebook to buy Luxottica/Essilor? Facebook owner Meta has explored a multibillion-euro investment in eyewear group EssilorLuxottica, as the social media platform intensifies its push to develop smart glasses. The Silicon Valley company has considered taking a small stake in the €87bn Franco-Italian group. The move comes as Meta has been holding talks with EssilorLuxottica to deepen their existing collaboration following the successful launch of a revamped version of their “Ray-Ban Meta” smart glasses last year. Meta’s chief Mark Zuckerberg has spent billions of dollars in recent years to enter the wearable technology market, such as by creating virtual reality headsets. Meanwhile, Paris-listed EssilorLuxottica has also pushed for deals that can attract a new generation of shoppers. There is no guarantee that any investment will take place, said the people close to the talks. Meta has been working with Morgan Stanley on the matter. Marking its tenth anniversary, FR's Fashion Revolution Week highlights the ongoing #WhoMadeMyClothes campaign, which promotes awareness of clothing production and supply chain ethics. One day after EssilorLuxottica announced its deal to acquire Supreme from VF Corporation, Meta, Facebook's owner, is in talks to acquire a stake of about 5% in the eyewear company. Based on recent market value, a roughly 5% stake could be valued at around $5 billion, a relatively small for Meta, given its market value of around $1.2 trillion. EssilorLuxottica makes Meta's Ray Ban smart glasses and sales of the glasses have exceeded expectations. The devices, an important part of Meta’s hardware strategy, allow users to take photos and listen to music with the frames of their glasses, among other features. Maintaining ties with Luxottica is crucial for the success of smart glasses devices and the company’s ambitions to build the so-called metaverse, which is a term used to describe people interacting in a 3-D version of the internet simultaneously. A third generation of Ray-Ban Meta glasses, expected to include a small screen display, is expected to be ready for consumers in time for the 2025 holiday season. The allure of Luxottica’s Ray-Ban brand is important to the success of a tech device that users are expected to wear on their faces. Luxottica’s ownership of LensCrafters, the prescription-eyewear retailer, also plays a key role in selling the Ray-Ban Meta to users who require prescription lenses. The two companies began working together several years ago for the release of the first generation Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses, which went on sale in 2021. The initial device struggled to catch on with consumers, and among the glasses that were sold, only 10% of the Ray-Ban Stories were actively used by their purchasers. The second-generation Ray-Ban Meta glasses went on sale in September and have done significantly better than their predecessors. The Ray-Ban Meta glasses operate more quickly and have better cameras than their predecessor. The Ray-Ban Meta also includes nascent generative #AI technology that allows users to ask the device for information about the things in front of them, such as the breed of a cat. The Ray-Ban Meta glasses have proven popular for users who want to shoot hands-free videos of their children playing and first-person videos of themselves while going on roller coasters or riding bikes. Meta hasn’t said how well the Ray-Ban Meta glasses have sold, but CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in April that the device was doing well and that a market for that type of device was developing sooner than he would have expected. Meta sells its own devices to employees at a discount, and offers the Ray-Ban Meta glasses at a 15% discount with a limit of 3 pairs per employee.
