🗓️ 𝟮𝟱 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲: 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗩𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗼 𝗗𝗮𝘆 ✋🏻 🟣 #Vitiligo is a complex disease with a multifactorial nature and a high impact on the quality of life of patients. 🟣 The current treatments for vitiligo mainly involve using corticosteroids and calcineurin inhibitors, either on their own or in combination. These treatments work by reducing the body's immune response. #Corticosteroids and #calcineurin #inhibitors are the preferred initial treatments and are most effective when used early in the course of the disease. 🟣 #Ruxolitinib cream (#Opzelura by Incyte) is the only FDA-approved prescription treatment for vitiligo repigmentation. 🟣 Opzelura belongs to a class of drugs known as Janus kinase inhibitors, or #JAK #inhibitors. JAK inhibitors are anti-inflammatory therapies that combat diseases at the immune system level. They target the JAK-STAT pathway, which is a signaling pathway for cytokines associated with several skin diseases such as psoriasis, itch, atopic dermatitis, alopecia areata, and vitiligo. JAKs work very quickly, typically taking from hours to a few days to show effects. Moroccan Juniper Anti-inflammatory & Antinociceptive Metabolites Post Series: Breaking Research In order to spread awareness about recent advances in medicinal plants & natural products science, this post series is intended to highlight some of the recently published research in the literature.  Today’s highlight:   Bioassay-guided isolation of anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive metabolites among three Moroccan Juniperus leaves extract supported with in vitro enzyme inhibitory assays. PMID: 38703873 This research investigates the anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive (pain-relieving) effects of bioactive compounds isolated from the leaves of three Moroccan Juniperus species. Using a bioassay-guided approach, the researchers identified specific metabolites that contribute to these therapeutic effects, as confirmed through in vitro enzyme inhibitory assays. These assays helped pinpoint compounds that effectively inhibit enzymes associated with inflammation and pain pathways. The findings highlight the potential of Juniperus leaves as natural sources of anti-inflammatory and analgesic agents, which may have applications in treating inflammatory and pain-related conditions.
