À propos
EMBRC a research infrastructure that accelerates marine biology and ecology research in Europe. Through a network of 80 marine sites across Europe, we provide access to marine biodiversity and ecosystems, services and expertise, to help researchers from academia and industry study the ocean's biodiversity and ecosystems to speed up discoveries and develop innovative solutions for the environment and the sustainable blue bioeconomy. EMBRC fills gaps in ocean observation data through EMO BON (European Marine Omics Biodiversity Observation Network), the first coordinated long-term genomic biodiversity observatory in Europe that studies marine life using DNA techniques. EMO BON is part of the UN Ocean Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development through the OBON programme. In the face of global environmental challenges, EMBRC promotes global science-based decision-making to support biodiversity management policies for a sustainable future worldwide. The organisation is part of the ESFRI roadmap and operates under the legal status of a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC), granted by the European Commission.

#EMBRCBlog | 👉 How an underwater hotel is helping to identify marine biodiversity hotspots A longstanding question in marine biology is where biodiversity richness comes from. Thanks to EMBRC’s EMO BON observatories, which enabled standardised sample collection and analysis across the continent, researchers were able to see a much clearer pattern behind what drives species richness in the ocean. 🔗 To find out what they discovered, and the significance of their findings, read our Q&A with co-author Matthias Obst, Göteborgs universitet: https://lnkd.in/emH5smmR #AutonomousReefMonitoringStructures #ARMS #MarineBiodiversity #EMOBON Christina Pavloudi Katrina Exter Nicolas Pade EMBRC Spain EMBRC Belgium EMBRC France EMBRC Greece Centre of Marine Sciences (CCMAR) DTO BioFlow FAIR-EASE Genoscope - Centre National de Séquençage ANERIS Project Melanthia Stavroulaki Ioulia Santi

#ScientificPaper | 👉 How do global environmental variables impact the richness of marine species? In a new paper, researchers used Autonomous Reef Monitoring Structures (ARMS) and DNA metabarcoding to figure out what affects organisms settling on the seafloor. They found that the seasonal patterns of plant and algal growth play an important part in explaining the diversity of immobile animals like corals. #EMOBON I 📢 EMBRC’s EMO BON observatory releases its first data 📢 The first data collected through EMO BON’s sampling efforts are now available. These data: ➡️ Were collected by EMO BON’s 17 marine stations across Europe using eDNA-based genomic methods ➡️ Follow FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) data principles ➡️ Will be integrated into the European Digital Twin of the Ocean ➡️ Are now available for anyone who wants to use them for meta-analysis ➡️ Are the first of EMO BON’s data releases, which will now take place around every six months ➡️ Will help Europe understand its marine biodiversity And support the continent’s role as a global leader on sustainability solutions 🎯 By generating biodiversity data that can be analysed by scientists around the world, EMO BON provides Europe with a means to monitor and understand its marine ecosystems and make science-based marine management decisions. “Basing management actions on robust biodiversity data – such as how marine life responds to external pressures like climate change or pollution – is vital if we are to protect important habitats and tackle pressing environmental and societal issues,” says Christina Pavloudi, data scientist at EMBRC. 🔗 For more information about EMBRC’s first data release, visit: https://lnkd.in/eJ2Fe-Yb #EMOBON #OceanObservation #MarineObservatory Matthias Obst EMBRC Spain EMBRC Belgium EMBRC France EMBRC Greece DOORS Black Sea DTO BioFlow Ioulia Santi Genoscope - Centre National de Séquençage Nicolas Pade UN Ocean Decade Melanthia Stavroulaki
