𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗮 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁. 𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗰 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲? 𝑃𝑜𝑠𝑖𝑑𝑜𝑛𝑖𝑎 𝑜𝑐𝑒𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑐𝑎, commonly known as Neptune grass, is a seagrass species native to the Mediterranean Sea. These vital ecosystems play several major ecological roles in the region but are fragile and have been in decline for several decades. In 2019, ANDROMEDE OCEANOLOGIE and OEil d'Andromède launched the REPIC (Restoring Posidonia Impacted by Anchors) programme. Co-directed by our Aqualung Oceans ambassador, Laurent Ballesta, the initiative aims to replant fragments of Posidonia in areas severely damaged by anchoring. The programme employs an eco-friendly method that collects floating bundles of Posidonia, either torn up by ships' anchors during the summer or naturally detached. These fragments are replanted using biodegradable metal staples specifically designed for the project. Since its inception, Andromède’s professional divers and marine biologists have restored approximately 3,900 m² of seagrass beds across three sites near Nice in the South of France. This impressive achievement was made possible by 188 field days and 876 hours of diving. We take great pride in having remarkable ambassadors like Laurent.
