Material Handling Supervisor New Way Trucks Updated 1/4/2024 JOB DESCRIPTION This position is responsible for material handling functions in New Way Trucks Iowa production.
They hold team members accountable for efficiency, quality, safety, and compliance with company policies.
They supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in moving materials both within the production facility and to external production facilities.
This position reports to the Fabrication Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Provide a safe work environment and assure that team members follow safe work practicesIdentify opportunities to improve productivity and assist with implementation of changes.
Supervisor is a role model for the department by practicing employee engagement while having a respectful and positive attitude.
Directs efforts of staff, ensuring all work is coordinated, downtime is minimized, and product meets established quality standards.
Works to develop procedures and techniques to reduce process variation and manufacturing delays, while increasing productivity.
Justifies headcount requests, participates in hiring process and creates expectations of an employee.
Manages performance and works with HR in situations requiring disciplinary process.
Communicate with other departments and suppliers to ensure proper materials and equipment are provided for the team members.
Review and approve weekly payroll within policy and meets deadlines Maintains inventory and supplies to meet delivery schedules.
Provide training and coaching to help team members advance their skills Coordinates production schedule with support departments and resolves production problems related to methods, tools, materials, and manpower.
Communicate expectations and challenges to team members.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 1- 2 Years experience in a leadership role required.
Strong communication skills with all levels of the organization.
Knowledge of inventory management including Kanban ordering, cycle counts, and inventory control procedures.
Understanding of the logistical processes needed to move material to and from external production facilities.
Ability develop and improve processes, procedures, and efficiency to improve the material handling department and meet company goals.
Ability to read blueprint drawings and pick lists.
Computer skills including ability to use and create word documents, spread sheets as well as utilize Payroll, and Enterprise Resource Planning software.
This is a full-time salaried position based on the manufacturing schedule.
This position is responsible for assuring that there is leadership presence when hourly employees are in the plant working This job description describes the general nature and level of work expected of a person assigned to this position.
