Description:
Summary: The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist assures compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations as required by company policies and compliance organizations such as OSHA, EPA, and the Iowa DNR.
This position covers both Spencer and Boyden facilities by spending at least half of their day working with production personnel on safety improvements in the manufacturing environment.
This position is responsible for assuring that safety/environmental training programs and policies are administered on a timely, fair, and legal basis.
This position does require travel between our Boyden and Spencer facilities on a weekly basis.
Pay based on experience/education.
Assure compliance with all Federal, State, and Local governmental regulations including environmental, health & safety regulations.
Maintain compliance with 29 CFR 1910 and state regulations.
Drive process improvement efforts to reduce/eliminate risk for workplace injuries.
Plan and coordinate projects as needed.
Conduct accident and near miss investigations.
Investigate safety concerns to ensure hazards are identified and addressed appropriately.
Interact with all regulatory agencies to assure ongoing compliance as well as compliance of any process changes or the addition of new processes to the facility.
Assure that all regulatory permits are kept current.
Keep up to date with new regulations and regulatory requirements.
Develop and lead Environmental, Health & Safety Training for compliance.
Coordinate annual projects including, CPR / First Aid response, flu shots and hearing tests.
Maintain SDS on file and include GHS training with all new hires.
Train Managers and Supervisors on Environmental, Health & Safety matters.
Conduct new-hire employee safety orientation.
Maintain complete records on inspections with all Federal, State and Local governmental visits and inspections.
Maintain an inventory of all types of PPE used by plant personnel.
Develop Job Safety Analyses for various jobs and determine appropriate PPE required for each job.
Must be familiar with all plant equipment for EHS assessments.
Work with various vendors and contractors to ensure safe practices in the local facility.
Prepare reports and statistical analysis of Environmental Health and Safety data for plant and corporate review.
Lead the safety committee and serves as a resource for management and employees on safety-related policies.
Requirements:
2-year degree in Environmental, Health and Safety, Business, Industrial Technology, Industrial Hygiene or related disciplines; or the equivalent in education and work experience is preferred.
4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
Knowledge - Experience in environmental, health and safety field and the EHS Management System Implementation.
Skills - Strong oral, written and presentation skills, strong interpersonal abilities, and effective organizational skills.
Abilities - Successfully coach and mentor indirect facility personnel.
Develop EHS Program Champions.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to a diverse workforce.
Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in interpreting policies and procedures, in delegating responsibilities and in analyzing and evaluating EHS activities.
Must have clear driving record.
