What’s more classic than Dorothy’s ruby red slippers?

To celebrate “The Wizard of Oz’s” 85th anniversary, Marc Jacobs has teamed with Warner Bros. for a capsule collection featuring accessories and apparel.

A standout? Marc Jacobs Ruby Rhinestone Kiki Mary Janes. The all-red shoes feature a platform and a black heel, adorned with red rhinestones and are a modern take on the film’s iconic footwear. They retail for $450.

Other items include the “Not in Kansas” denim totes and the “Emerald City” leather bags. The Sack Bag is also highlight, designed to represent Dorothy’s blue gingham dress with a graphic of her ruby red slippers plastered on the front of the handbag.

The capsule will be available in select Marc Jacobs boutiques as well as online and celebrated
with window displays across select cities in the U.S. and immersive pop-ups in Japan, Hong
Kong, London, and Paris.

The Marc Jacobs collab is great alternative to the real ruby red slippers, which were put up for sale by auction house Moments in Time for a whopping $6 million in 2018.

According to the auction listing, the slippers, made by Innes Shoe Co., were used by the MGM studio for promotion of the 1939 movie. Incredibly, given their value today, the pair was once owned by a Tennessee teenager, Roberta Bauman, who won the shoes as second prize in a National Four Star Club “name the best movies of 1939” contest. Sixty years later, Bauman’s lucky shoes were auctioned by Christie’s East for nearly $700,000.
