During this workshop, the participants go through a set of exercises. Each exercise exposes a problem teams usually face when working with design systems. Hosts and participants will share their experience of the subject, discuss possible solutions and outline best practices. All to empower participants to champion smooth and successful building and managing of design systems.

    Workshop contains
    - Introduction to design systems, up to the level of the participants;
    - Deciding design system content;
    Working with the backlogs;
    - Tailoring process via Pattern Journey exercise.

    This workshop had a great run on the 18th of October 2018 in Intergalactico office in London. With 10 attendees we formed 2 very diverse and multidisciplinary teams which worked very enthusiastically and creatively inventing the very best design system processes.

    Understanding the Global Food Delivery Ecosystem and Providing Future Focused Solutions

    1. About the project

    Huhtamäki are global specialists in packaging for food and drink, dedicated to making every consumer experience enjoyable, consistent, and safe. They approached Aalto University’s Masters Program in International Design Business Management for this student project to help them solve a business & product related problem.

    2. Methodology

    We understood that a successful solution would need a thorough understanding of the domain and to enable this, our team did extensive research to map out & understand the food delivery ecosystem, the key players, the influencers and the overall trends going forward. We approached this from four different perspectives: food consumer, food delivery platform, food producer and packaging producer.

    3. Findings

    By integrating direct insights from consumers and combining that with key information gleaned from food delivery conferences, restaurant tours, interactions with representatives from delivery companies and even lots of video observations of the delivery process, we were able to craft a comprehensive understanding of the ecosystem. The key outcome of this understanding is presented in the diagram below which features the main industry stakeholders and their interconnections.

    5. Concepts

    This overall understanding of the ecosystem, combined with our insights gathered from the various players, allows us to present this potential roadmap for innovation going forward. We believe packaging alone isn’t enough for Huhtamaki to become a player in this space and thus we have shared a range of situations where they can add value. In addition, we’ve also provided some thought-provoking future directions for food delivery based on our research.

  • [workshop] Hands-on with Design Systems

    Full-day workshop at a Design System Conference (Helsinki) about building design system and pattern library (React) in a multidisciplinary team. Altogether, there were 30 participants in 6 teams, and each team invented product UI, designed and developed its pattern library, built final product and provided brand changes to both. Empowered with the design-systems approach, the brand change took only 15 minutes.
