Through its Sustainable Investors Fund (SIF), Capricorn Investment Group is a strategic partner and investor in Norselab. The third annual SIF Impact Report, featuring Norselab and other investees, has just been released! 📄🌱 The SIF is designed to support early-stage, mission-driven asset managers capable of driving large-scale change. Capricorn established the SIF, believing that impact and financial returns can go hand in hand and that there is a large gap in allocating capital to pressing global challenges. This gap needs asset managers with innovative approaches to investing for both returns and impact at scale. The report shows the progress SIF has made in advancing its impact goals and highlights the positive outcomes that investees like Norselab are enabling for their end beneficiaries. Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas, contributing to up to 30% of current global warming. As methane is a short-term climate forcer, 80 times more potent than CO2 over 20 years, reducing it provides critical short-term mitigation benefits. While app. 2/3 of Nordea Asset Management portfolios exclude oil and gas, for the remaining 1/3 we found ourselves looking for a way to engage impactfully with firms in the industry. In consequence, we launched our collaborative engagement on methane, bringing on board 20 other investors. In 2023, we traveled to the US and Canada, as well in Europe, to engage with companies and participate in Oil & Gas industry conferences on Methane mitigation. The engagement has delivered substantive results, with nine target companies joining UNEP's OGMP 2.0 initiative in 2023, including Petrobras, Aker BP, Coterra, Chesapeake, EOG, INPEX and KazMuynayGas. ExxonMobil, Chevron, Woodside, OMV and Pertamina joined in 2024, bringing the total to fourteen. Four of the companies we met with in Texas have since joined and are now preparing for their first reporting to the OGMP 2.0. For the first time, Nordic companies have reported their eligibility under the EU Taxonomy for four new environmental objectives: water, pollution, biodiversity and circularity. The Finnnfund EUR 100 million,10-year bond green bond bears interest at the rate of 3.5% per annum. In a strategy, adopted in January 2022, the company sets one of its targets to fund 50% of investments with private capital by 2030 and estimates the financing gap at USD 2.5 trillion per year. Andrey Medvedev, Senior Vice President at Jefferies said: “We are delighted to have assisted Finnfund issuing its longest private placement to date and showcasing its innovative green projects. 📑 In its latest #biodiversity action plan, Swedish pension fund investor AP3 Tredje AP-fonden utilises the ENCORE tool to map potential biodiversity impact and dependence in its #equity portfolio. 🔎 ENCORE, a partnership between Global Canopy, the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) and the UNEP-WCMC, helps organisations understand their exposure to nature-related risk, which can be built upon to derive an assessment of biodiversity-related risk. 🤝 Recently, Climate & Company (C&C) worked with Andra AP-fonden (AP2) to carry out due diligence on its #deforestation-related risks and impacts by using the guidance developed by Global Canopy, Neural Alpha and the SEI — Stockholm Environment Institute. The upcoming elections to the European Parliament may cause a major blow to sustainable investments in Europe, impacting investors and the investment industry, Flemming Højbo writes in his latest analysis for AMWatch. If there is a political shift to the right, anti-climate voices will become more influential, and this may limit green EU initiatives. Furthermore, other issues – such as the war in Ukraine – are now dominating the political agenda in Europe.
