The German automaker is quickly losing customer trust following the recent incident. Concerns are mounting over the credibility of the problematic nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) battery produced by Farasis Energy, which has been identified as a key issue. The NCM battery produced by the Chinese company has been associated with several safety issues internationally. Occupational safety level classifications granted in Finland – Valmet Automotive with top ratings The Vision Zero Forum has granted occupational safety level classifications to member workplaces in Finland for 2023. This year, 108 workplaces were recognized, of which 48 had zero accidents, among them Valmet Automotive’s battery plant in Uusikaupunki. As announced in the media release by Finnish Institute of Occupational Health, the growing interest in ratings by Finnish companies demonstrates the increasing value of occupational safety and its development. The Vision Zero Forum makes a clear basis with which companies can continuously improve their occupational safety. The values include openness, learning together and encouraging each other. At the heart of the forum's activities is Vision Zero, a concept that represents a long-term commitment and positive attitude to promoting safety, health and well-being. The forum already has more than 550 member companies. In the Vision Zero Forum, companies promote a positive safety culture and relay the latest information on trends in occupational safety. The network also shares comparative data and best practices and produces tools and materials for succeeding at work. 🌨️ We are happy to announce a new #wintermobility project in #Jyväskylä, #Finland! 🌨️ Road Technology Centre - Teede Tehnokeskus has partnered with the Jyväskylän kaupunki - City of Jyväskylä to launch a two-year #pilotproject aimed at improving #wintermaintenance by using advanced #weathermonitoring technology on #bridges. The project combines real-time sensor data with advanced weather models and user feedback to deliver #preciseweatherpredictions specific to individual bridges, enabling faster and more accurate responses to changing winter conditions. Teemu Liimatainen, development manager from the city of Jyväskylä, shared: "As a city that experiences #changingweather conditions, it is important for us to be able to anticipate changes in winter weather as well as possible. By introducing this new #weathermonitoring technology, we can gain a much deeper understanding of the #roadsurface #conditions on our bridges. This allows us to #reactfaster and more accurately to changing weather conditions. We believe that this partnership with AS Teede Tehnokeskus will improve the efficient use of resources." As part of the project, autonomous #IoTbased weather stations have been installed on selected bridges in Jyväskylä. These compact sensors, embedded directly into the bridge surface, provide #realtime updates on factors such as road surface temperature and moisture levels, giving essential insights into conditions that lead to ice formation. Volvo Cars ottaa haltuun Northvoltin osuuden akkuvalmistuksen yhteisyrityksestä NOVO Energystä. Northvolt päätti olla laittamatta lisää pääomia NOVO-projektiin: "Volvo Cars has today notified its counterpart in the NOVO Energy joint venture, Northvolt AB, that Volvo Cars will invoke its redemption rights to acquire Northvolt’s shares in NOVO Energy. This action follows a breach of the parties’ shareholders’ agreement where Northvolt AB has not fulfilled its financing obligations.  Volvo Cars is evaluating any potential impact these developments could have for NOVO Energy and is investigating future scenarios to protect the investment. The NOVO Energy building could be multifunctional and various options are now being considered on the assumption that Volvo Cars reaches full ownership. Any battery production at NOVO Energy is dependent on third party or other partner involvement. When Volvo Cars reaches full ownership it is not expected to impact Volvo Cars’ other planned investments or its targets on cash flow. Volvo Cars has a diversified and resilient battery supply chain and its vehicle roll-out plans will not be affected. Volvo Cars intends to have a constructive dialogue with Northvolt on the matter. Hienoa suomalaista akkualan vastuullisuus -tutkimusta by Ulla Lassi & co. Viime vuosina nopeus on ollut tärkein kriteeri uutta akkutuotantokapasiteettia rakennettaessa, mutta pikku hiljaa olisi hyvä alkaa miettiä, kuinka akkujen valmistuksesta saataisiin kestävämpää ja vastuullisempaa: "The expected growth of electric mobility will have major sustainability implications in societies across the globe due to a global reliance on primary natural resources and the uneven distribution of benefits and impacts. There has been a call for comprehensive assessments that account for the complex causalities between technological, environmental, social, economic, and political aspects of electric mobility. We present a literature review examining the interconnections between aspects of sustainability in the use of critical materials in electric vehicle batteries. With a holistic review of social sciences, materials science, environmental policy, and innovation management literatures, five domains of sustainability tensions were identified: 1) resource sufficiency, 2) geographical distribution and global value chains, 3) regulation and policies, 4) circular economy, and 5) emerging battery technologies. The framework explicates the wickedness and complex causalities involved in the interdependencies of multiple sustainability dimensions and the related tensions. This study extends the examination to cover political aspects and adds to techno-industrial research on battery materials, supply chains and industrial policies and land use, electricity consumption and governance in EV battery production. Three sectors within the Gothenburg region generated just above 70 per cent of the total turnover in 2023. Commerce stood for approximately 29 per cent (569 BSEK) of the region’s total turnover, followed by manufacturing 27 per cent (539 BSEK) and business services 14 per cent (284 BSEK). Adjusted for inflation and compared to 2022 (= 2,010 BSEK), however, Gothenburg region’s total turnover in 2023 (corresponding to 1,980 BSEK) decreased by 1.5 per cent.

Scientists have been researching alternatives to lithium for years. Much of the world relies on this kind of battery, but the mining and processing of its materials can be harmful to workers, local communities and the environment. Sodium has recently emerged as one of the more promising options, and experts say the material could be a cheaper and more environmentally friendly alternative to lithium. In the past few years, sodium-ion battery production has increased in the United States. Last month, sodium-ion battery manufacturer Natron Energy announced it would open a “gigafactory” in North Carolina that would produce 24 gigawatts of batteries annually, enough energy to charge 24,000 electric vehicles. Have you ever thought that maybe an electric car might not meet your needs as well as a traditional internal combustion engine vehicle? 🧐 Our board member Marek Kurs confirms that in fact, choosing a functional electric car is even easier because they don't have the complex systems of internal combustion engine cars, making them considerably more cost-effective! Here are some tips for choosing a good and functional electric car: ⚡️Consider the battery capacity. It's a myth that electric cars can only drive short distances, stemming from the time when the first electric cars with small battery capacities appeared. This justification no longer applies, as with an 80 kilowatt-hour battery, you can drive at least 300-400 kilometers. 🤝Don't be afraid of used electric cars. Used electric cars may be in better condition than used internal combustion engine cars.
