A few years into my career, my mother once asked me: "What is it like working in IT?" I said: "The new technology is a lot of fun, and my day is different almost every single day. The frustration comes when the routine suddenly becomes the challenge." "What do mean?" "Imagine that today, you wake up and you cannot tie your shoes: it just doesn't work. You are tying the same pair of shoes the same way you have always tied them but today, it is not happening. Once you have established that nothing else has, in fact, changed, you are faced with the following options: 1. If you switch your shoelaces between the left and right shoe, you will be able to tie your shoes 2. If you replace the shoelaces with the exact same type or version of shoelaces, this will allow to tie your shoes as well. 3. If you wait until tomorrow, you will also be able to tie your shoes. This was the best analogy I could come up with at the time. Several decades later, I find this still to be true far more often than one might expect.

"And the winner is... SchedZamm"! ⚡ (but wait... why?) Holding my breath, waiting for it to be announced while going through in a flash of everything that had happened in the last 48 hours. I was hoping it would be `ShedZamm`! I in fact prayed for it. But as always, I told myself it would be fine if I didn't win. "At least the presentation went really well". The video you see is of actually right after our presentation/demo ended. (and then there was a pause... when every jury member was deciding their votes for who is going to win) Adam Brinkman appreciated me for the good presentation and I admired his consistent efforts with the backend and integration of Google Gemini with GraphQL. And when it was announced, as always, couldn't help myself from continuously smiling (Alhamdulillah), and me and Adam both went to the podium and received some nice goodies from Logitech & Google. What did we do to win the Hackathon? And what is SchedZamm? There's so much to tell :) It could be a video, or it could be an article. There are so many learnings just from these 48 hours of working on a crazy approach to solve the problem we were given for the Cillers hackathon. I can however, already give a few tips that helped us: - Scope things down. The time is limited, and so are the resources - Optimize back and forth communications. Spend the initial time brainstorming and agreeing on as many things as possible. Everyone can then keep working fast, while continuing to have necessary discussions. - Use premade things. Boilerplates, existing templates, usage of AI to do the things faster for you (use Gemini btw ;) ) - Make it work, then make it pretty. If things don't work well, there's no point in showing a great UI/UX. - Figure out "that one thing" about your target project. We did that in the initial scope and focused all our energy on what we will be demoing at the end. It had to be simple, focused on a single purpose, and flawless. The AI part of our app should solve the target problem EASILY. And we actually did that. - Presentation really matters. And I'm not talking about having heavy slides with a lot of images and text. If 12+ teams are presenting, people can hardly remember all the details a team leaves them with. - With above said, STORIES. Stories are what stick with people. Not facts, not details. But how your presentation/talk/demo made them feel. I'm a life-long learner and my research & studies around story-telling really helped in our presentation. - Be an active listener. There were several occasions where I thought I was proposing a good way to a solution but I immediately fell back to listen to Adam and his thought process. And about half of the time, he was right. And the other half, we both were saying the same thing but in different terms. Empathy is the key. I want to thank Peder Linder, Per Lange & Adam Brinkman for being amazing. Why AI Needs Rules, Not Just Power I have seen it firsthand - AI is like the new cool tech that everyone wants to work with. It’s boosting efficiency, driving innovation, and in some cases, saving us tons of time. But like any new tech, AI needs a bit of oversight. It's kind of like giving a teenager a car. Sure, they can go places fast, but without some rules and structure, things might not end well. Industries are integrating AI / GenAI everywhere - customer experience, operations, even decision making systems. But here's the kicker, If we don’t have clear governance, AI can make the wrong decisions, spread misinformation, or worse, reinforce biases. That’s why having the right governance in place is so important. We need to ensure AI stays in line with ethical standards and doesn’t accidentally spread misinformation or make biased decisions. And as Uncle Ben famously told Spider Man , “With great power comes great responsibility.” Striking that balance between innovation and responsibility is key to making #AI a true #asset, not a liability. In the Technology & Innovation area led by Claudia Nemat,  we are constantly exploring the latest AI tools to enhance #software #development.  While we already utilize #GitHub #Copilot, we recognize the wealth of alternative #AI tools available in the market. Currently, we are evaluating #Codeium.  My initial impression is that it is on par with Copilot.  Codeium offers a compelling advantage:  * it's free for individual developers and  * can be hosted on-premise, ensuring that company #code remains secure within our own data centers. Been reading quite a few posts about #DTW2024 and unlike the previous years there was something different about this year’s DTW. And it was not just the record numbers and the enthusiasm. Certain topics like B2B2X, platforms and collaboration, were discussed passionately. I had the time to discuss this topic with Rahul Kumar and Neel Mehta whose insightful questions and views elevated the discussions. A Digital Business Marketplace for a Telco is different than what it is for others. For the simple reason that most of the product offerings of a Telco marketplace are inherently more complex. Partner Relationship Management and Supply Chain Management are often overlooked and an Architectural governance is needed to ensure a proper linkage between the design time activities like Partner onboarding and run time activities like Orchestration and Partner Settlements. Hence the need for Telcos and other verticals to come together and work jointly on the standards. Meaning ODA needs to be uplifted to reflect the needs of the B2B2X marketplaces. And the ODA uplifting needs to take into account the aspect of the delayered Telco and the views of the other stakeholders in the Digital Eco System. Great to see #TMForum working on this in the collobaration projects of E2E ODA and Digital EcoSystems Management. And a big shout out to Andreas Böhmann Mamta Bharti Nadine Junker Sigrid Braun Karsten Thon and all the others involved in the DT booth where the same topic of ODA usage and enhancements was showcased.
