LEGISLATION & STANDARDS: New EU safety regulations mandate the use of ADAS Starting last week (July 7), new rules regarding active safety features in vehicles, including speed limiters, came into effect across the European Union. The New Vehicle General Safety Regulation (#GSR2) or Regulation (EU) 2019/2144, updates the minimum performance standards (type approval) for motor vehicles in the EU, requiring the addition of several advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). These required systems include intelligent speed assist (ISA), autonomous emergency braking (AEB), driver drowsiness and attention warning (DDAW) and emergency lane-keeping systems (ELKS). Nokia has launched several of its new innovations in Midsummer Launch in Finland couple of weeks ago. We have announced two new two compact, next-generation outdoor #Airscale baseband products with 4G-5G and 2G-3G-4G-5G options. These baseband products will support twice as much cell capacity and enhance uplink throughput by up to 30 percent while reducing power consumption by up to 40 percent compared to existing basebands we have. On #Airscale radio portfolio, we have added a new high-performance #Habrok 32 Massive MIMO radio that supports an instantaneous bandwidth of 200MHz. This will enable operators to choose the ideal Massive MIMO solution that best fits their available spectrum assets and deployment needs. We have also launched #Kolibri and all-in-One 5G small cell for indoor and outdoor use cases. #Kolibri products don’t need a separate baseband unit, which enables simplified installations and deployment flexibility. Thought of the day: "United we stand divided we fall" People working together are more likely to be successful (effective) than those who work individually. Same is true for ADAS systems like AEBS, LDW & DMS. If these systems work together, they can handle many more scenarios and can be used to improve the overall performance & effective ness of the system. For example, driver distraction cases like driver talking on phone or driver looking sideways or towards the infotainment screen even though dangerous may not always be disastrous (like on empty stretch of road with a controlled within lane driving) , the situation will only escalate if obstacle is detected on collision path or lane deviation is detected Under such circumstances the distraction threshold and duration both can be slightly relaxed (to avoid driver irritation) if no danger is perceived for next 3 seconds by other systems like #FCWS / AEBS and #LDW. Unfortunately, #DMS as a standalone system without the knowledge of on road conditions will result into unnecessary irritation to driver though distraction warnings as soon as his eyes are off the road Similarly, if the driver is drowsy and even though #DMS sounds an alarm, it will take some time for the driver to wake up and get into his full senses, unfortunately this delay could be good enough to cause an accident, this situation could be easily handled through #AEBS by applying brakes or active #DMS which cuts off accelerator pedal This is the main reason why at Starkenn Technologies we have developed a 360 Degrees safety system, where all the systems work together to reduce accidents by alerting driver and also taking proactive actions like accelerator cut off / braking and at the same time avoid unnecessary alarms which might irritate driver (which may eventually result into switching off the safety system(s) by driver)

Goodbye 3G! The last 3G network was closed down in Helsinki last night. Kenny (Nokia 6650) and my WCDMA book can be retired to the museum now. WCDMA theoretical peak rate was 2 Mbps (and practical 0.4 Mbps) while the live 5G network in Helsinki provides 2 Gbps. Impressive evolution in the last 22 years! The data rate has more than doubled every two years since 2002. And more evolution coming with 5G-Advanced and 6G.

The 6th ETSI NG112 Plugtests in cooperation with EENA 112 have officially started, an important step towards ensuring interoperability in emergency communications. Among the key focuses this year is the testing of real-time text (RTT) as defined in RFC 4103 and ETSI TS 103 479, emphasizing the importance of true equivalent access for everyone. Many solutions claim to implement RTT, but often are proprietary, require a data plan and lack priorization on the network. Prioritizing native RTT instead of relying on proprietary over-the-top solutions makes emergency services more accessible, inclusive and efficient. NG112 Plugtests are a major step in testing and validating systems to ensure standard conformity and interoperability. #5G in numbers › Peak data rate – The target for peak data rate should be 20 Gbps for downlink and 10 Gbps for uplink. › Connection density - The target for connection density should be 1 000 000 device/km2 in urban environment. › Peak Spectral efficiency – The target for peak spectral efficiency should be 30 bps/Hz for downlink and 15 bps/Hz for uplink. › Bandwidth – up to 400 Mhz for carrier bandwidth. › Control plane latency – The target for control plane latency should be 10ms. › User plane latency For URLLC, 0.5 ms for UL, and 0.5 ms for DL. For eMBB, 4 ms for UL, and 4 ms for DL. › Mobility - The target for mobility target should be 500km/h. › Reliability – The target for reliability should be 0.99999 msec within 1 msec.

#SOFTWARE: EU stakeholders and AVL partner for safer and quicker development of SDVs Under the leadership of mobility technology company AVL, key players in the automotive, supplier and #semiconductor industries, along with research institutions, have united to propel the advancement of #softwaredefinedvehicles (SDVs). In a collaborative effort dubbed FEDERATE, or the Chips JU Framework, the #EuropeanUnion is orchestrating this convergence. Partners from seven countries, including VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH, Infineon Technologies and the Technical University of Munich, are actively involved. Gereon Meyer, head of European and international business development at VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik, said, "A coordinated approach is required for maximum safety, efficiency and reliability. The FEDERATE project plays an important coordinating role here." Peter Priller, principal technology scout at AVL, said, "The new approach makes it possible to continuously improve safety and comfort in the vehicle through software updates and enhancements." Georg List, vice president of corporate strategy at AVL, concluded, "We are proud of the trust the EU and the industry have in AVL to lead FEDERATE."
