Fabriqué à partir de matériaux durables et personnalisables, il s’adapte à divers usages et besoins. Ses bancs intégrant des bacs à plantes renforcent une approche biophilique, en rapprochant les usagers de la nature pour améliorer leur bien-être. En tant qu’outil pour le design actif, sa modularité permet de réaménager les lieux afin de favoriser les interactions, le mouvement, et la création d’espaces dynamiques et engageants. Ce format met en lumière nos moments forts, nos rencontres, et nos réalisations marquantes et d'autres inspirantes. 2024 a confirmé que le #designactif, ce concept d’urbanisme qui favorise l’activité physique au quotidien, reste au cœur de notre démarche. What is a Soft City? 🔍 A "soft city" refers to an urban environment that prioritizes human-scale design, flexibility, adaptability, and the overall well-being of its residents. It focuses on creating spaces that are comfortable, accessible, and conducive to social interactions. In a series of posts we focus on the seven key characteristics of a soft city. Green and Public Spaces 🌿 Soft cities prioritise greenery and access to nature within the urban landscape. Parks, “pocket gardens”, tree-lined streets, and green rooftops are common features, providing residents with spaces to relax and connect with others. Paving way for more green spaces and balancing the use of public realm, for example the allocated space for cars for more places for people and greenery, is vital. How Parkly promotes soft cities? 🔍 Parkly promotes the concept of soft cities by providing innovative, flexible, and human-centered urban furniture solutions that enhance the livability, social connectivity, and sustainability of urban spaces - whether it is a parklet, pocket park or a rooftop. Multifunctional spaces provide people the opportunity to “make space” for themselves: inviting people to stay, connect and use their city. Human-scale design through green and public spaces 🌿 Parkly bridges two key elements of soft cities: people and greenery. Plants and greenery inspire curiosity, provide a sense of connectedness, and offer visual and sensory relief from the hard, gray surfaces of cities. From noise reduction to vibrant color contrasts, greenery softens the urban environment while creating inviting spaces. The remote work trend continues post-pandemic, impacting local services, sandwich shops, and the overall vibrancy of cities. Equally important is recognizing the diverse needs of working life: open air co-working spaces for those working remotely, relaxing outdoor breaks for hospital staff, rest spots on the streets for delivery workers to enjoy their lunch hours, for example. At September's Placemaking Week Rotterdam by Placemaking Europe, we teamed up with Nature Desks to co-create solutions for this often-overlooked topic: the city as a workplace. Together, we explored how to design green and sociable outdoor workspaces and raise awareness about their importance. Consider this: for example 1 in 10 companies in the Netherlands operates from one of 3,800 business parks, where nearly a third of all jobs are located. This highlights the need to rethink how we incorporate outdoor work opportunities into urban areas. The result? 🌿 Today, we’re taking a different approach to Black Friday by highlighting sustainable design. We came up with "Green Friday" to emphasise the value of thoughtful, lasting design and circular economy principles. At Parkly, our focus is on creating sustainable solutions that benefit both people and the planet. Instead of promoting overconsumption, we advocate for design that stands the test of time, supports green urban spaces, and fosters community connections - and is based on circular design. Every part can be reused, overhauled, modified - and used again and again.
