North Abloom: A Celebration of Craftsmanship and Collaboration As part of the Pro Vitrea Prize, designer Matias Karsikas had the opportunity to work alongside skilled glassblowers at the Iittala Glass Factory in May 2024. In this collaborative workshop, Karsikas’ visions took shape as unique glass pieces, crafted with precision and artistry, which he then combined into striking works of art. The prize also includes an exhibition, North Abloom, which showcases highlights from Karsikas’ earlier career and a stunning series of northern flowers brought to life through collaboration with Iittala’s glassblowers. The exhibition is open at the Finnish Glass Museum until 31 December 2024. Experience this beautiful blend of creativity, skill, and tradition. About us
Iittala is a creative universe that brings together exciting, surprising, and inspiring elements of culture to create something original and insightful. Our roots are in Finland, and our heritage is in artisanal glassmaking. What started as a glass factory in 1881 now celebrates generations of design, art, and culture. At the heart of what we do is the cultivation of craftsmanship. We bring together people from different cultural backgrounds to create something unique. We aim to play and experiment, create together, and make the most of the expertise we have built up over our long heritage. For over 140 years, we have created designs that are made to be loved and used, day in and day out.
