The legendary NBC sketch show returned for the monumental new season on Sept. 28, with a stacked roster of hosts and musical guests, including SNL first-timers like Jean Smart and Chappell Roan, as well as returning faves like John Mulaney and Ariana Grande. Meanwhile, Marcello Hernandez, Michael Longfellow, and Devon Walker were all promoted to the main cast for season 50. See below as we track every new episode date, host, and musical guest this season. Sept. 28, 2024: Host Jean Smart with musical guest Jelly Roll Jean Smart on 'Saturday Night Live' on Sept. 28, 2024. Saturday Night Life/YouTube Emmy-winning Hacks star Jean Smart made her SNL hosting debut on the season 50 premiere alongside Grammy nominee Jelly Roll, performing as musical guest for the first time. The show's cold open featured the return of Maya Rudolph's Emmy-winning Kamala Harris impression. She was joined by Jim Gaffigan as Democratic VP candidate Tim Walz, Andy Samberg as second gentleman Doug Emhoff, and SNL master impressionist Dana Carvey as President Joe Biden. Smart's Hacks costar Hannah Einbinder, daughter of SNL original cast member Laraine Newman, also popped in to help introduce the musical guest. Oct. 5, 2024: Host Nate Bargatze with musical guest Coldplay Nate Bargatze hosting 'Saturday Night Live'. Will Heath/NBC Less than a year after getting rave reviews for his hosting debut last season, stand-up comic Nate Bargatze returned to SNL on Oct. 5, alongside frequent musical guest Coldplay. Bargatze reprised his fan-favorite George Washington sketch from last year, this time mocking the idiosyncrasies of the English language. Also returning were Rudolph, Samberg, Carvey, and Gaffigan in their political impressions from the premiere, this time including Carvey smashing Rudolph in the face with Biden's ice cream cone. Don Francisco, host of Sábado Gigante, thanks Saturday Night Live for parodying the variety show Oct. 12, 2024: Host Ariana Grande with musical guest Stevie Nicks Ariana Grande on 'SNL'. Saturday Night Live/YouTube Wicked star Ariana Grande hosted for the second time on Oct. 12, after a previous stint doing double duty as musical guest. This time, Fleetwood Mac legend Stevie Nicks did the musical guest honors, nearly 41 years since her last appearance on the show. The episode featured a Family Feud cold open, starring the returning Rudolph, Samberg, Carvey, and Gaffigan, with the SNL alums among them all appearing in later sketches as well — including a moment where Samberg nearly cracked up Thompson by calling his former costar "Kenan" in a sketch set in the Italian Renaissance. Oct. 19, 2024: Host Michael Keaton with musical guest Billie Eilish Michael Keaton on 'SNL'. Saturday Night Live/Youtube Beetlejuice Beetlejuice star Michael Keaton hosted SNL for the fourth time on Oct. 19, after last doing the duty in 2015. Oscar winner Billie Eilish joined him as a musical guest, also for the fourth time. Rudolph and Carvey were back as Harris and Baldwin, and the show's previous Donald Trump impersonator, Alec Baldwin, returned as Fox News anchor Bret Baier. Oct. 26, 2024: Rerun Saturday Night Live takes a week off on Oct. 26, and will air a repeat of the season 50 premiere hosted by Jean Smart with musical guest Jelly Roll, before it returns the following week. Nov. 2, 2024: Host John Mulaney with musical guest Chappell Roan John Mulaney hosts 'Saturday Night Live'. NBC Former SNL writer and fan-favorite host John Mulaney fronted SNL for a sixth time on Nov. 2, his return after picking up his Five-Timers Club jacket in 2022. "Pink Pony Club" singer Chappell Roan joined him in her highly-anticipated debut as musical guest, performing a new country song. SNL alum Pete Davidson made a cameo appearance in Mulaney's latest musical sketch. But the biggest surprise of the night was Vice President Kamala Harris joining Maya Rudolph in a twinning Kamalas cold open just days before the 2024 presidential election. Bowen Yang holds hands with Chappell Roan through Saturday Night Live goodnights after previous fan drama Nov. 9, 2024: Host Bill Burr with musical guest Mk.gee Saturday Night Live Comedian Bill Burr returned for a second time to host SNL's post-election episode on Nov. 9, joined by first-time musical guest Mk.gee. The show began with a group of cast members insincerely pandering to President-elect Trump, who then appeared in new form as "Hot Jacked Trump," still played by Johnson. Although this was the first episode without Rudolph, Samberg, and Gaffigan following Harris' election loss, Carvey returned, this time as billionaire Trump backer Elon Musk. NBC Charli XCX did double duty on SNL's Nov. 16 episode, marking her first time hosting and third time as musical guest, after previously being impersonated on the show by Yang (an impression revived on this episode). In addition to a cold open that featured Carey back as Biden and Baldwin as Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the episode also saw Samberg back to star in a new Lonely Island Digital Short.
