BiT-BDU Student Success Centers Organize Commencement Program for Students [November 23, 2024 Bahir Dar, ISC/BiT] *************************************** Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, Bahir Dar University (BiT-BDU) organized an informational session through its Student Success Centers, English Language Improvement Center (ELIC), Career Development Center (CDC) and Business Incubation and Techno Entrepreneurship Center (BiTec). The session aimed to provide students with a clear understanding of the services and objectives of the Student Success Centers at BiT-BDU. Dr. Amare Tesfie, Director of the Academic Quality Assurance and Enhancement Office, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the role of the centers in improving students' communication skills, career readiness, and innovation. He noted that the centers efforts are crucial for enhancing students' competitiveness in the international job market. Dr. Sisay Ayalew, Coordinator of ELIC, presented the center's work in enhancing English language skills for undergraduate and postgraduate students, instructors, and administrative staff. He underscores the importance of effective communication in today’s global job market and encourages students to actively participate in the center’s programs. Mr. Henok Gashaw, Coordinator of CDC, outlined the center’s services, which include career counseling, soft skills training, resume writing, and digital literacy. He urged students to take advantage of these offerings to unlock their potential and excel in the workforce. Following that, Mr. Fasil Tariku, Coordinator of BiTec, highlighted the center’s focus on mentorship, skill development, entrepreneurship, and technology transfer. As he articulates, the centers provides students with invaluable hands-on experience, inspire and support young entrepreneurs in launching their own ventures. The program concluded with a call for students to actively engage with the centers to maximize their academic and professional opportunities. 🚀 BiT CDC and BiT Student Union Continue Leadership Training with a Focus on Effective Communication 🗣️✨ Today, the BiT Career Development Center, in partnership with the BiT Student Union, hosted our second leadership training session, focusing on a skill crucial for every leader: communication for impact. 💬🎯 Led once again by the insightful Habtamu Alemayehu (MSc in Structural Engineering), the session was centered around overcoming common communication barriers and learning how to communicate with clarity and purpose. Key takeaways from today's session included: Talking more doesn't equal effective communication: Sometimes, less is more. Leaders need to focus on concise messaging and active listening to make a real impact. 👂💡 Identifying communication barriers: Participants shared their personal experiences, discussing everything from not thinking thoroughly before speaking to the challenge of conveying messages clearly and succinctly. 🧠💬 The session was highly interactive, sparking meaningful discussions and reflection among participants. Tasks were assigned to help practice these new skills, which we will follow up on in future sessions.
