Bizum, a Spanish payment solution created by local banks, initially gained traction by enabling instant peer-to-peer (P2P) transfers. Since late 2019, Bizum has expanded to support payments in online stores, allowing users to make instant payments without needing credit or debit cards. With its speed, security, and efficiency, Bizum has become a favorite payment option for many Spaniards, especially younger users. Currently, it boasts over 28 million users and is accepted by more than 68,000 merchants. These numbers are expected to grow as e-commerce continues to thrive in Spain. Applying technological innovations to finance means that companies can now issue assets in a tokenised form.  #Shares, #Bonds or #Funds: #tokenisation offers multiple advantages.  For issuers: security (encryption), immutability, transparency (knowledge of end investors), programmability (e.g. of payments), accessibility (7/24/365 to a worlwide base of investors), communication (in particular of the #ESG characteristics of assets) and, above all, reduced processing costs and therefore operational risk. Similarly for investors, the fungibility of traditional and tokenised securities (having the same ISIN code) and the information transmitted by smart contracts will make trading more secure, faster and richer. 📢 MiCA Regulation: AMF Now Accepting Applications for Authorisation as a CASP 🇫🇷 The Olympics is not the only big thing happening in France right now! According to a Friday release, the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) – France has started accepting applications for crypto-asset service provider (CASP) authorisations under the European MiCA Regulation, effective from July 1, 2024. Key Details: 🔹 Mandatory Authorisation: From December 30, 2024, ten key crypto services will require prior authorisation. These include: ✔️ Custody and administration of crypto-assets ✔️ Operating crypto-asset trading platforms ✔️ Exchanging crypto-assets for funds or other crypto-assets ✔️ Executing crypto-asset orders on behalf of clients ✔️ Providing advice and portfolio management on crypto-assets ✔️ Providing transfer services for crypto-assets 🔹 Regulatory Requirements: Providers must comply with anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing rules, cybersecurity obligations, governance standards, and more. 🔹 Transition Period: Existing French providers registered under the PACTE regime have until June 30, 2026, to obtain MiCA authorisation. However, 'simple' or 'enhanced' registrations or optional authorisations do not allow European passporting during this period. 🛣️ What’s Next? It's all about preparation. The AMF urges interested parties to prepare early due to the stringent requirements compared to French legislation.
