Clinical adoption of digital health technologies is one of the greatest barrier for any healthtech innovator. 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤. Selling to the NHS is hard. 😖 But even if you somehow manage to convince a health board to procure your clinical app. You still need to ensure: 1. That clinicians know about your app. 2. That there is an easy way for them to prescribe it. 3. That there is an easy way for patients to access it . Because if it takes a #clinician hours to figure out how to even get an app into the hands of #patients, the rate of adoption drastically decreases. 👉 And no adoption = no sales. Which is why I was so pleased to learn more about ORCHA's digital health formulary. Already operational in 70% of all #NHS sites, the digital health formulary allows clinicians to easily prescribe clinical apps/ #digitaltherapeutics to patients. 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬, 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜. Do you want to keep up the healthcare AI world? (It is exhaustingly fast paced). Here is this week's interesting news and research: 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬: 🗞 In Australian a case worker entered 𝚜̲𝚎̲𝚗̲𝚜̲𝚒̲𝚝̲𝚒̲𝚟̲𝚎̲ data into ChatGPT and, predictably, produced an inaccurate child protection report. 🗞 Over 100 companies have signed the EU AI pact. 🗞 The MHRA publish its data strategy, which includes a theme on safely harnessing AI to improve MHRA efficiency, and they launched Airlock! 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡: 👩‍💻 A study found a 5th of surveyed UK Drs using GenAI (eg ChatGPT) for tasks like differential diagnosis. 👩‍💻 Deloitte research on the EU AI Act finds, among other things, 48.6% of surveyed companies have not seriously prepared for it. 👩‍💻 A survey of 500 US patients on mental health AI found concerns on accuracy, unintended consequences, confidentiality, and clinician contact.   👩‍💻 NIHR explored the Clinical Trials Registry of AI trials and found most focus on cancer, but few describe which algorithm is used. I wanted to talk today about the criticality of #Agile project management in startup organizations (and not just the ones in #health, #healthcare, and #digitalhealth #innovation & #technology areas on which I tend to focus most) - ‘Agile’ breaks work into short sprints with product changes (often working software) delivered frequently for feedback. The approach encourages adaptability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Agile Project Management workflow is therefore an iterative, adaptive #projectmanagement method focused on rapid change and the quick and continuous delivery of benefits to the customer. Segments of work are released as they are completed, providing the customer with early, measurable ROI (with any flaws identified and fixed as they arise to decrease the possibility of the entire project failing. Agile projects are usually a self-organized team who practice daily collaborative work. In the agile project management method, planning is integrated with execution as the team decides how to plan the project and how to complete the work. The team works incrementally, continuously evaluating the requirements of the project. Ultimately, the team regularly reflects on how it can become more effective by saving time and money and then makes the necessary adjustments. For us in Broadlake we are seeing very exciting opportunities in the UK & Ireland in tech enabled healthcare services but the key pillars of success appear to revolve around appropriate unit pricing, brutal honesty in assessments of customer acquisition costs and customer lifetime values and access to a diverse pool of healthcare talent. For us the logical evolution of Telehealth 2.0 is a Digiphysical approach to Tech Enabled Healthcare Services.

Thanks very much to techUK and British Computer Society for an excellent day today discussing the XpanDH Project. Thanks especially to John Farenden for organising and Henrique Martins for some great discussions. This is a super exciting project to create interoperability across the digital health landscape across Europe. There is still so much uncertainty about what involvement and appetite the UK will have with the project, but today's event is a great starting point and should hopefully get the ball rolling. 💡How do we get patients and clinicians to trust AI for healthcare? Ready for HLTH Europe - the European debut of the no.1 US health event? So are we! (And we’ll be appearing on a panel, too!) 🌍 We previously shared some of our top picks for talks at the conference next week – including a panel that asks: “Is trust the biggest hurdle facing AI?” Because to truly be able to revolutionize health systems with generative AI technology, we need buy-in from clinicians and the trust of patients. Unlocking Healthcare's Future: Balancing Privacy and AI with Federated Learning In their insightful paper, Rahman et al. highlight how federated learning (FL) offers a novel method to balance privacy with utility for data-intensive models in healthcare. FL allows multiple healthcare entities to collaboratively train AI models without sharing raw data, preserving privacy while leveraging vast, diverse datasets. This approach holds significant promise for enhancing predictive analytics and patient care without compromising sensitive information. This is a tricky balancing act for any healthcare organization- we need large scale, diverse and high quality datasets to optimize the use of #ai. We must first solve the privacy challenges…. 🦄 Flo is the first European FemTech start-up to have reached unicorn status following their Series C raise in July. 💬 This news sparked an online conversation and asked: why we aren't seeing more European FemTech unicorns? 🇪🇺 Building a successful HealthTech company in Europe remains difficult. In fact, scaling healthcare innovations across Europe tends to be more challenging than expanding into the US. This is due to multiple factors including market conditions, the lack of functional payer models (aka, figuring out who’s going to pay for your innovation) and restrictive advertising and marketing regulations making it difficult to reach more potential clients. 💰 There is an overall deficiency of funding in women’s health across all verticals (notably digital health) and a clear lack of female investors in all markets (including FemHealth). 🥊 Battling these obstacles is difficult for all founders - wether male or female. 🍼 FemTech is still in its infancy. Given that entrepreneurs with a successful past venture have a higher chance of success in their next venture compared to new entrepreneurs, one could argue that we will eventually encounter more successful founders within the FemHealth as more ventures are built. 🏆 Flo’s success highlight's the founders grit and perseverance in such a challenging market. This announcement is a win for women's health as it helps to close the 131 years of gender health gap. ❤️ But if we’re serious about closing the gender health gap, we need more than just unicorns —we need real, lasting tangible change.
