In Spanish, we don't enjoy "insights/solutions/reporting/compliance". Please don't use "disfrutar" in business context. There are many neutral and business-relevant verbs for those objects — "obtener, usar, acceder, consultar". Enjoy those verbs!

Nope, Google, this is not what "Upgrade" means in this context. Within the context of software apps, a button that says "Actualizar" is immediately understood as "Update" rather than "Upgrade", so the current Spanish version might even be considered misleading. Off the top of my head, I can think of "Acceder" which, although not a straight translation, does a better job at conveying the meaning of "get access to a better, upgraded version" than the "Actualizar" currently being used.* Just letting you know this might be pointing at a potential gap in your testing process for Spanish translation / localization. Hope it helps! Please send me your billing information so I can issue my invoice (just kidding—this one's on the house). 👍 * It doesn't seem to be working right now ("Submit" button does nothing), but as soon as it does, I will ask Gemini for a couple of Spanish translations of "Upgrade" that cannot be confused with "Update". I’ve been reading an article about the “challenges” of attempting a translation of the work Franz Kafka. https://lnkd.in/ebwDUgGD It’s a tricky one to know what think. I’ve been reading a bit of George Orwell lately and I think the same about both – the nature of the language / prose used is actually very simple (Orwell even more so, he uses very simple language to describe some very difficult ideas), but the nature of what they’re talking about it very complicated. Does this inherently make it easy or difficult from the point of view of a translator? Not sure at all. Any thoughts? #FranzKafka #LiteraryTranslation #translationservices

I've shared this Lionbridge article many times: ▶️ https://lnkd.in/dfzzZxk Tips for Writing: Short sentences Standard word order whenever possible Avoid long noun strings Be consistent Avoid jokes, jargon, idioms, metaphors Be clear when using dates and time Use relative pronouns Chose the active voice Reduce phrasal verbs Plan for text expansion in your web page layout I believe many of these tips also apply to writing in your primary language even if you don't have plans to translate. Plain language and simple sentence structures will help your readers. Always write the month using the 3-letter abbreviation. Language in itself is complex. Tip: In my AI prompts, I add instructions to use plain language and simple sentences.

There’s no denying that many translators are skeptical of AI solutions. AI promising to speed up our work but instead leading to poor outcomes, doubling our workload, and reducing pay. And let’s be honest, they’re NOT WRONG. Without a clear strategy, terminology supervision, or quality input, AI and MT engines can indeed produce disastrous results. But here’s the thing: change is inevitable, whether we like it or not. Some of us will continue to serve direct clients who require fully human translations. However, it's unrealistic to believe that we, as a collective, can resist this shift in our industry. What we can do is adapt—and wisely. In fact, I recently came across a great example of how AI can be a helpful tool. One translator was struggling to translate a joke from Polish to English and reached out to a Facebook group for ideas. She was stuck, unable to find the right words to make the English version as funny as the original. Then, someone decided to ask AI. And it came up with a few clever ideas that we could choose from. So, why not use AI as an idea book, or as a search tool (Again! With a dose of caution, as with any tool)? It can be a great source of inspiration when we need it most. In our client interactions, let’s emphasize the importance of intelligent AI use. We should be proactive about terminology management, demand glossaries, and never accept a project without first reviewing the MT output. After all, using a general LLM to translate specialized content, like medical texts, is a recipe for disaster. But with an MT engine trained on domain-specific content and a term base curated by experts, the results CAN BE remarkable.

Facebook lists – there are many support groups for translators on Facebook - - like Things Translators Never Say and all sorts of local country, technical and associated lists where you can ask questions and rant about something… Glassdoor – Glassdoor.com (and local versions) -- - here you can read everything about larger companies to see how they threat their staff, what they think of their CEO, what the hiring process is like, what the paygrade is for certain jobs and more of that stuff. It is usually a good indication of everything the HR department will never tell you… Graydon – if you are in the really big numbers – asking for a credit report here will give you all the details you need Speaking Dolphins - not sure it still exists – but also a community for translators (and the like) to check for feedback on clients)
