🚢ANTARES SHIP AGENTS ARGENTINA NEWS – November 13th, 2024🚨 📰 Further to the following item in our NEWS of October 28th: https://lnkd.in/d6R5Mp6S AGP, the Government entity which collects Channel Tolls, has shifted the “sections” that are applied for calculation of the distance travelled along the River Plate and River Parana. After the official announcement charges have been received where they interpret that: Zona Comun is to be considered part of La Plata Port and therefore charged as an additional section of the navigation. Due to this, vessels that used to transit Martin Garcia (usually ballasters) will now have higher channel tolls than those transiting the Emilio Mitre Channel. Estimated additional costs: -Handymax USD 7/8,000.00 -Supramax USD 9/10,000.00 -Panamax  USD 11/12,000.00   It may happen that vessels stopping to lift bunkers at Zona Comun will have to pay an additional “section”. Estimated additional costs: -Handymax USD 7/8,000.00 -Supramax USD 9/10,000.00 -Panamax  USD 11/12,000.00   On the other hand, because of the section change the tolls have been lowered for vessels calling Timbues as follows: Handymax USD 2,000.00 less Supramax USD 2,500.00 less Pananmax USD 3,000.00 less Presentations protesting these extra charges are being made by the local Agents Association and other parties to the AGP to protest and obtain the annulment. Today, Denmark unveiled a model of the ALETTE MÆRSK, one of A.P. Moller - Maersk’s ships from the world’s first series of methanol-enabled mainliners. The model was handed over to Mr. Arsenio Dominguez, the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The Maersk Equinox methanol series is a great example of new maritime technologies and innovation that can help decarbonize shipping. We hope that this model will serve as an inspiration to the ongoing efforts at the IMO to develop ambitious international regulations that incentivize the use of net-zero GHG emission fuels.

They are the first Spanish merchant fleet shipowner to adopt wind propulsion on their fleet! 🏆 As part of Marflet’s ongoing decarbonisation strategy, the installation will enable Santiago I to dramatically reduce conventional fuel use and emissions. When Calculations Go Wrong: A Cautionary Tale from the DENEB Capsizing The maritime industry thrives on safety, and a key element of that safety is ensuring vessel stability. This principle was tragically highlighted in the 2011 capsizing of the merchant vessel DENEB at the Port of Algeciras. My recent review of the official investigation report (Technical Report A-20/2012 of spanish government) revealed the importance of accurate stability calculations to prevent such accidents. The report identified discrepancies between declared cargo weights and their actual weight, leading to miscalculations of the ship's stability. Imagine a ship as a giant balancing act. Cargo weight distribution is paramount, and miscalculations can have devastating consequences. In the DENEB incident, inaccurate weight declarations resulted in an uneven distribution of cargo, compromising the ship's center of gravity and ultimately its stability. This is a stark reminder that prioritizing proper weight verification and meticulous stability calculations are non-negotiable for maritime safety. Here's why: Accurate Stability Assessments: Precise weight information allows for proper stability calculations, ensuring the ship remains upright and secure during transport. Safe Cargo Distribution: Knowing the exact weight of cargo enables its balanced distribution throughout the vessel, preventing an imbalance that could cause a capsize. Do you know how and where we obtain the seaweed for our products? PatBio has maritime concessions along a 400-mile stretch of coast between the cities of Valdivia and Chiloe, located in Chile, South America. This collaboration focuses on enhancing Spain’s fast-ferry offerings through a locally tailored approach. The agreement, signed at MSC’s headquarters in Geneva, marks the start of a long-term strategic partnership. Key developments include the creation of new routes in the Strait of Gibraltar, such as Ceuta-Algeciras under the Ceuta Lines brand and Tarifa-Tangier, pending a decision by the Algeciras Bay Port Authority (APBA).
