70 Leads Per Day and No Sales: The Mistake I Made as a Health Coach (and How You Can Avoid It) For years, I misunderstood how a sales funnel worked. I thought it was enough to have: - a top of the funnel (TOF) to build awareness… - a middle of the funnel (MOF) to build desire… - and a bottom of the funnel (BOF) to generate purchases. So I hired a marketing company to build a funnel for me. And it was gorgeous. It started with paid ads (TOF) which led to… - an opt-in page (TOF), where people gave me their contact information for a free guide… - and I sent them a series of nurture emails (MOF), which then…  - directed them to an offer page that sold my program (BOF). It didn’t work. People opted-in - I got an astonishing 70 leads per day… but they never moved past this step - most didn’t even download the free guide. What I didn’t understand was that the most important part of a sales funnel is how to move people from one stage to the next… because gravity won’t work on this kind of funnel… and a free guide and a series of nurture emails aren’t enough in a world where customers are exposed to 10,000 ads per day. According to Niel Patel, the buying journey of the typical American is more convoluted than all the ladders and slides in Candyland. They get distracted and go down the slide of Tik Tok videos and weeknight recipes for chicken. So you have to design how to move them from one step of the funnel to the next. For this, add in Donald Miller’s idea of transitional calls to action (TCAs). A TCA is like asking your customer on a date versus the direct call to action (DCA) of asking them to marry you. With each date, they get closer and closer to accepting your marriage proposal. TCAs are a great way to move people from one stage of your funnel to the next. Here are 15 examples: - Podcast - Blog - Free pdf guide - Webinar - Client testimonials - FAQ - Newsletter - Social media posts - eBook - Quiz - Survey - Live talk - Infographics - Demos - Comparison/spec sheets But, we need to add one final piece to our TCAs to pull people through your funnel. And it comes from Alex Hormozi. In your transitional calls to action, give people something that is “a complete solution to a narrow problem… and “once solved, it reveals another problem.” Then, the next part of your funnel helps them create a solution to that problem. Since you’re already helping them create solutions, they’re eager to go onto the next stage of your funnel. Moving people through your funnel doesn’t have to be rocket science, but it does require strategy. And AI can help you design effective funnels, create compelling TCAs, and develop solutions to keep clients engaged. 4 contact rate killers destroying your B2C sales revenues (..and how to eliminate them ASAP) The most asked question we get is: "Why are our contact rates so low and what can we do about that?" Here are the 4 things that normally cause this problem: 1️⃣ Lack of speed to lead — Most companies don't call the lead until the following day or hours later. Ideally, it has to be within the first 5 to 10 minutes. 2️⃣ No welcome email sequence — Rarely do companies send an email telling the client what's going to happen next, like thanking them for the enquiry, providing the lead magnet, and outlining the next steps. Do this within the first 5 minutes of receiving the lead. 3️⃣ Not using SMS or WhatsApp — Instead of sending those boring “All about us” emails begging the client to call back, use SMS or WhatsApp to reach out after an unanswered call. Or part of your welcome sequence. 4️⃣ Not leaving a voicemail — Most companies don't do this and don't know how to effectively. Simply, if you don't leave a voicemail, how important was that call in the first place? Keep it short and sweet though! To fix these issues: ✅ Call leads within 5-10 minutes ✅ Send a welcome email sequence. (Ask me about automation tools to use). ✅ Use SMS/WhatsApp for follow-up and nurture. ✅ Always leave a voicemail.(I block the numbers that don't leave a VM. What do you do?) Implement these 4 strategies and watch your contact rates soar! It's not rocket science, but it does require a system. Do this and you'll be miles ahead of your competition. Ever heard of over exaggerating your Ecom results? We recently tested a few things within our Memified Creative Strategy by putting in over exaggerated behaviors within the video. Examples: - Over the top acting - Flopping(Soccer IYKYK) - Loud but unnecessary response What does this even do? The point of over exaggerated behavior isn’t to say that the product is so great that “I just can’t even” The point of this is to elicit a response from the audience OR to the other cast members Audience - You’ll easily be able to get engagement because people will be commenting about the behavior. What will people generally say? “Cringe” “Paid Actors” “Give him an oscar” Remember though… Brands often mistaken this for over exaggerated REVIEWS. We’re talking mainly about the behavior or action. Because people understand what fake reviews or testimonials look like. Other cast members - This is highly underutilized. The over-the-top acting elicits a response to other people in the video itself. What are some examples? 1. People in relationships - Boy is “being himself” to the girl (Video example) 2. Someone pranking another and exaggerating the action In the video example(sorry we had to blur out most of it), you can see that the husband is having an over exaggerated reaction to a gift from the wife. HER response is what is important: She is laughing along his oscar winning performance because he is “being himself”. It’s also relatable after because he says “Okay actually this is pretty cool”. What type of comments were generated? “I can see why they’re together” “Love his sense of humor” “Lucky woman” So depending on HOW you have exaggerated behavior, that will dictate the type of engagement you will receive. Even though I do evangelize CRO for DTC brands. 🙌 But it is not the only tool in your brand's arsenal. 🛠️ There are other tools you can use for better conversion rates, AOV and LTV (stickiness). Some of these are: 1. brand identity - much more than logo & font 2. brand story - much more than "about us" 3. tone of voice - much more than copy 4. style of language used in the messaging 5. aesthetics - much more than design ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yes, even aesthetics are important. Why? Because a Gen-Z girl won't drop 20% of her salary on a jewellery. Unless the jewellery brand's store & social aesthetics are on point. And, the messaging is in-line with her personal values. Now you can do CRO & tweak elements of your store such as CTAs, photos, pricing, product titles etc & call it a day's hard work. Or you can go the extra mile and work on other 5 points as well. A few B2B paradoxes that keep me up at night... ☑ Most companies suffer from 'who the fuck are you' problem: most of their target market has never heard of them ☑ Majority of B2B site visitors will leave these sites having zero clue what it is that the company does (besides promising 10x ROI) ☑ Despite half of LinkedIn shouting 'talk to customers!', there are so many marketers who haven't talked to more than a few customers ever ☑ In a space where sales cycles are measured in months and years, most orgs are almost entirely focused on short term initiatives ☑ Executives who ignore or even talk shit about lame outreach tactics are the same executives that push their own orgs into doing more of exactly that ☑ Endlessly rebranding age old terms (e.g. brand awareness > demand generation) has done more harm than good to marketers ☑ There is very little critical, first-principles thinking in B2B; decisions are mostly made because 'we've always done it this way' or 'competitors are doing it' ☑ Competing on product is a privilege for the 1% truly innovative products; rest of us are competing on brand or positioning in commoditised categories I'm sure you have a few more to add...

Sub $50 brands do THIS 🚀🚀🚀 If you sell durable goods, you usually need to be first-order profitable. But when you are selling low-AOV consumable products, it's tough to do. A simple heuristic is to model your acquisition economics to be profitable on the 2nd order. Then, focus all your retention efforts on pushing as many customers as possible to place a second order. Let me give you a quick example: Let's say your AOV is $50, and your COGS are 50%, including shipping and transaction fees. Your gross margin is 50%, meaning you gross $25 per order. So, two orders would gross $50. And that's the maximum I would spend on acquisition on blended terms if you want sustainable growth. Want to spend more and grow more aggressively? - Reduce COGS to increase your gross margin. - You can also raise prices to expand your gross margin, but it usually impacts your conversion rate; so test first. - But the healthiest way is to increase the average orders per customer.

Sounds easy, right? But is it really that simple? The idea of just buying a product and selling it for a markup without considering all the hidden costs and competition is misleading. Most of the margin is eaten up by Amazon fees, shipping costs, and advertising expenses. Instead of chasing random product opportunities, focus on finding and serving a specific group of people. Solve their problems and build a brand around that. The Big 4 flows that Klaviyo highlighted in its 2024 Benchmark report are the most important things you can be working on as a marketer. By Big 4, I mean: -Welcome -Post-purchase -Abandoned cart -Browse abandonment These are the email tactics I’ve been writing about and using at all of my brands for the last [ahem] years, and they remain important enough that Klaviyo continues to highlight their efficacy. Really, the subtext is: -You’ve gotta be using these. -If you’re not already, start yesterday. If you are already, make ‘em better. Because. . . They are >fundamental< to email programs + improving them is crazy-high-ROI marketing work. Revenue per recipient (RPR) gets silly high when you’re looking at the Top 10% vs. the average (see attached graph). The best abandoned cart flows are ~692% higher than the average. Looking at this, you have to ask yourself whether you’re driving the most value with your time. If you’re around avg RPR, and a few months of work on abandoned + welcome)can double RPR, that’s where your hours should go. That’s potentially tens/hundreds of thousands/millions per month of extra revenue you can get from your flows. This work turns solid brands into great brands and great brands into household names. It’s what I obsessed over for 20yrs, starting back in the early 2000s at my first brand, Design Public. It’s why I first launched Nerd Marketing. A great email program was, is, and will remain key to being a great brand. And driving even more value from email (with direct mail) has been one of our missions at PostPilot. I wish I could have used direct mail to extend what I was doing with email over my whole brandside career, but PostPilot didn’t exist until my last 2 turnarounds, AutoAnything and oVertone. (You better believe we were combining email flows + PostPilot-powered direct mail at both brands, though.) 3 High-ROI Email + Direct Mail Moves: 1️⃣ Add a postcard at the end of your welcome flows and post-purchase flows. Or go further and create a postcard flow at the end of those email flows. 2️⃣ Same idea with abandoned cart: add a postcard(s) to the end of your abandoned cart flow. 3️⃣ Go a step beyond email’s browse abandonment capabilities and use direct mail for anonymous retargeting with our popular feature, SiteMatchTM. And, as Michael Epstein likes to say, “lower your Meta taxes” in the process. These tactics will take mere minutes of your time and add thousands ($) to your flows. I think the most important KPIs to track are Revenue and TACOS. Just knowing these 2 things, we can calculate our profitability. If TACOS is too high then there's a conversion rate and/or organic ranking problem (these two go hand in hand).
