Gilde Healthcare (#LSIEurope24 Investor) is a specialized healthcare investor managing over $2.6 billion across two fund strategies: Venture&Growth and Private Equity. The firm is headquartered in Utrecht, Netherlands with offices also in Frankfurt, Germany, and Boston, USA. In November of 2023, Gilde Healthcare announced the final close of its Gilde Healthcare Venture&Growth VI fund with €740 million in commitments. Fund VI reached the hard cap following a first close at €600 million in April 2023. The new fund focuses on fast-growing companies developing solutions for better care at lower costs. Gilde Healthcare invests in companies in Europe and North America active in digital healthcare, Medtech, and therapeutics. The new fund will invest €10-70 million per new portfolio company. LPs around the world seek some sort of exposure to the #biotech investment category and the market has spoken as to the Forbion platform, with the #Netherlands-based European #lifesciences fund manager raising over EUR 2 billion, exceeding targets for its two newest funds, Forbion Growth Opportunities III and Forbion Ventures VII, by bringing in 1.2 billion euros ($1.3 billion) and 890 million euros ($980 million), respectively. This fundraise significantly overshoots the 1.35 billion euros ($1.5 billion) brought in by Forbion’s previous funds—Forbion Ventures Fund VI and Forbion Growth Opportunities Fund II—in April 2023 - yes, just last year! Key recent, outstanding investment exits include Numab Therapeutics AG subsidiary Yellow Jersey Therapeutics, which was acquired by Johnson & Johnson for $1.25 billion in May, and radiopharma biotech Mariana Oncology, which was bought by Novartis for $1 billion in the same month! At General Catalyst, our European Health Assurance thesis is to build scaled businesses at the intersection of healthcare and technology across geographies. The health aspirations and care needs are the same for consumers and the vulnerabilities of the health systems are similar.
