First, Europe has a well-established open banking regulation under the Revised Payment Services Directive (PSD2), which mandates that banks share customer data with third-party providers, fueling competition and innovation. Additionally, Europeans are generally more accustomed to digital banking solutions, and there’s strong consumer demand for integrated, seamless digital financial services. Why it might face challenges in the U.S.: The U.S. market, while ripe for innovation, has yet to fully embrace open banking. Regulatory frameworks like Section 1033 of the Consumer Financial Protection Act, which would push for data portability similar to PSD2, are only just being rolled out, with compliance timelines stretching into 2026 and beyond. Additionally, U.S. consumers may be more hesitant to adopt purely digital banks due to concerns over privacy, security, and the strong presence of traditional banking institutions that already offer digital services but are deeply rooted in physical branch networks. The true cost of employment in Spain When we talk about the real tax rate for employees, we should look at the difference between what a company pays for an employee and what actually hits the employee’s bank account. This is the real figure that matters, and below you can see a table describing the situation in Spain. For example, someone making €20.000 per year already faces an effective tax rate of 38%, and it can climb to nearly 50%. For context, the median income in Spain is around €27.000. But... "But part is for Social Security, not taxes" It doesn’t matter for this calculation—that’s still money you don’t see and goes into public coffers. From your pocket to the left or the right pocket of the public administration. "But the biggest part is paid by the company" It is a lie that part of it is paid by you or your employer, it’s part of the cost of employing you in any case. What you cost your company and what you take home are very different numbers. By the way, companies pay both parts of the Social Security with a single transfer, so it is literally undistinguishable. "But my tax rate is 14% and the rich pay 45%" Your real effective rate is likely around 40%, nearly the same as someone making €80,000 a year. Please don't get bad ideas from this insight… "But paying taxes keeps society running and is well spent" I’m not even questioning whether that 40% is well spent or not (yet). Just be aware that 40% of your money goes to taxes. And remember, on top of that, every purchase you make includes a 21% VAT, which also comes out of your pocket. Let’s call things by their real name and let’s put real figures to it!

EY has positioned the Chief Data Officer (CDO) as a key player in the digital transformation and growth of organizations, with 46.53% and 22.77% of cases, respectively, as the main motivators. This is the main conclusion of EY’s report: The Chief Data Officer, the result of collaboration with the Club Chief Data Officers Spain & Latam, presented yesterday at the firm’s headquarters in Madrid. The survey of more than 100 Chief Data Officers from Spain and Latin America reveals that, in addition to the main drivers, 17.82% of the participants consider that the main reason for introducing the CDO position is to improve operational efficiency. This reason prevails over others such as regulatory pressure and risk mitigation, which were pointed out by less than 10% of respondents, with 5.94% and 3.96%, respectively.
