From the AI4Software Spanish Research Network Research Network, we are pleased to present the paper "On the interaction between the search parameters and the nature of the search problems in search-based model-driven engineering", published in the journal Software: Practice and Experience. This achievement is the result of the collaboration between two nodes of the network: Universidad San Jorge and Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). In this paper, the authors (Isis Roca Mainer, Jaime Font Burdeus, Lorena Arcega Rodríguez, and Carlos Cetina) evaluate the impact of different search parameter values on the performance of an evolutionary algorithm whose population is in the form of software models. The evaluation includes 1895 model fragment location problems (characterized by five accepted measures) from two industrial case studies and uses 625 different combinations of search parameter values. The search-based model-driven engineering community could benefit from the outcome of this work by accounting for the influence of search parameter values and the nature of model fragment location problems in their studies. Despite being application agnostic, PASEOS has been designed with a focus on 𝐎𝐧𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 applications, including 𝐨𝐧𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐟𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 on satellite constellations. The use of cables instead of rigid links offers some advantages over their conventional rigid counterparts. As cables can only pull but not push, the number of cables (n) required to command the end-effector is always 𝑛+1. This configuration is known as fully-constrained, and it is the most extended configuration for CDPRs. Although CDPRs have many advantages, such as their ability to cover large working areas, one of their main problems is that their working area (workspace) is limited in comparison to its frame area (planar case) or frame volume (spatial case), due to the minimum and maximum allowed tensions. Depending on these tension values, the workspace can notoriously decrease. In order to tackle this problem, lots of works focus on solving kinematics or dynamics problems for cable sagging, i.e., they take into account sagging when modelling the robot kinematic and include these poses inside the usable robot workspace.

👀 Have you read our publication about XeroZerox: Analysis and Optimization of GPU Memory Management for High-Integrity Autonomous Systems? 🧑‍💻 This paper presents the challenges of using GPUs in critical autonomous systems, focusing on optimizing dynamic memory management. XeroZerox adresses this challenge, being an open-source tool that automatically converts the traditional dynamic memory allocations of GPU applications into allocations served from a centralized and optimally sized memory pool, which is managed in a way better suited for critical systems. XeroZerox allows legacy GPU applications to be used in a critical setup without rewriting them, minimizing at the same time their memory consumption and memory management runtime overhead. Following five exciting days, the 4S Symposium -Small Satellites Systems and Services in Palma de Mallorca ended last Friday. Aside of the many high-level technical sessions during the conference, several round tables focused on essential topics for the CubeSat/Nano- and Microsatellite community. Considering the status of the European launcher programs, a discussion about the status and future of so-called Nanolaunchers (including representatives from Exolaunch, Firefly Aerospace, HyImpulse, Isar Aerospace, Orbex, PLD Space and CNES) was surely one the most anticipated round tables of the conference. Since we have received the funding for launching CLIMB next year, this is of course also very important for FHWN Aerospace Engineering. As part of the International Multidisciplinary Modeling & Simulation Multiconference (I3M) in Tenerife, Denisa Correia Borges, from the CCG/ZGDV Institute, presented the article entitled "The Coexistence of Commercial and Open-Source Simulation Solutions in the Digital Twin Era". Simulation is a discipline with wide applicability. However, it faces challenges associated with commercial solutions, such as dependence on developers and high license costs. The article proposes a reflection on the opportunities offered by open-source solutions, presenting them as viable alternatives to commercial solutions. Furthermore, it highlights the beneficial coexistence between the two, emphasizing the potential of this combination to expand the adoption of simulation, especially in the context of Digital Twins.” This conference offers an excellent opportunity to bring together researchers and professionals involved in ​​simulation, promoting the exchange of knowledge and experiences. The result of the collaborative work of several scientific references, I3M is a privileged space for debate and the sharing of innovative ideas, paving the way for new approaches and forms of scientific exploration.

IntelliMan project partner Eurecat participated at the ROSCON24 conference which took place September 19th and 20th in Seville, Spain. Eurecat presented the work "ROS interface for Reinforcement Learning with TIAGo Robot on Isaac", showing the developed integration of the TIAGo robot used for IntelliMan's Use Case 2 within the Isaac Gym/Sim applications, and a novel pipeline to easily deploy learned skills on a ROS-based architecture. #ROSCon2024 #IntelliMan #Robotics #RoboticManipulation #AI

An AI-driven trust and reliability in autonomous systems project has been awarded EU funds! We're thrilled to announce that the InnoGuard project has received EU funding. This initiative will enhance the trustworthiness and reliability of Autonomous Cyber-Physical Systems (ACPS) using advanced AI methods. Coordinated by Mondragon Unibertsitatea (MGEP) with 7 partners, including Simula, InnoGuard is funded by the Horizon Europe MSCA Doctoral Networks. 🍃  Sustainability and Innovation 🍃  InnoGuard will develop energy-efficient ACPS with AI, including Large Language Models (LLMs), and test these in open-source systems like Robot Operating Systems (ROS). 🛡  Ensuring Security and Privacy 🛡  The project addresses key issues of security, privacy, and the ability to handle unexpected situations in ACPS. By developing solutions and standards, InnoGuard will help set high benchmarks for the industry. 🧠  Training the Next Generation 🧠  We're training early-stage researchers to improve ACPS quality, focusing on safety, dependability, and energy efficiency. “This project ensures a skilled workforce dedicated to advancing ACPS technology,” says research scientist Shaukat Ali.
