UNICO I+D Project Meet-Up 🚀 Last week, we had the privilege of co-organise the UNICO I+D Project Meet-Up at the prestigious ETSI de Montes, Forestal y del Medio Natural (UPM) in Madrid, Spain. Currently, there are 16 projects under the UNICO I+D programme, between them are ELADAIS, and ENABLE 6G, we are immensely proud to be a part of 🌟 The event brought together 8 projects led by teams based in the Madrid region, fostering an environment of collaboration and knowledge-sharing🔍 Key highlights from the event ➡️ Industry leaders and research teams exchanged best practices, insights, and innovations. ➡️ The event connected key stakeholders from across the R&D community, including universities, SMEs, large corporations, and RTOs, driving forward the development of cloud technologies. Insights on International Standards for Cloud-Edge-IoT 🌍 As part of the Workshop on Cross-Domain Standardisation and Architecture for IoT and Edge Computing, our CEO, Tanya Suarez Ph.D. Suarez, hosted a panel discussion with Dr. Seungyun Lee, Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) and Emilio Davila Gonzalezález, DG CNECT D3, about the “International view on key actions on standards for Cloud-Edge-IoT”.  Key highlights from the discussion 👉 Unified Architecture for Standards – There is a critical need for a cohesive architecture for standards. Collaborating with international SDOs (Standard Development Organisations) and the open-source community is essential to achieving flexibility and enabling multi-vendor interoperability. 👉 The Role of Open Source – Open-source solutions play a central role in Cloud-Edge-IoT standardisation, with successful examples from the European ecosystem, especially ETSI and OASIS Open. 👉 Large-Scale Pilots in Standards Development – The importance of Large-Scale Pilots (LSPs) in shaping standards was emphasised, along with the need to create effective feedback mechanisms between pilots and SDOs to balance innovation flexibility with the necessity for standardisation. Additionally, Dr. Seungyun Lee shared valuable insights into TTA's work with ISO/IEC JTC1 SC 38/WG 3, particularly their focus on standards for edge computing and networking in Cloud-Edge Computing🌐 🔍 Meanwhile, Emilio Dávila González raised an important warning about the risk of market fragmentation caused by multiple, overlapping standards, which has driven European policy to focus on international cooperation for ICT standards.  Last week, our team successfully delivered a hybrid workshop on cross-domain standardisation and architecture for IoT and edge computing, in coordination with the European Commission INSTAR Standards and #CEISphere 🌟   A series of industrial evidence pitches and real-life use cases from the viewpoint of industry, research and standards validated the urgency of promoting further international cooperation for harmonised cross-domain, open-source standards in the field of Cloud-Edge-IoT ✅   Our expert speakers touched upon: ➡️ The status of standardisation for Cloud-Edge-IoT and the most important emerging actions across the international landscape ➡️ The need for a European trust label for Cloud-Edge-IoT, which we will be working on through CEI-Sphere ➡️ The challenges of cross-sector standardisation, emphasising the need for standards that support interoperability and flexibility, particularly in the energy sector ➡️ Efforts of upscaling standards and standardisation strategies from pilots to international actions 👉 The two-day event included insightful talks from the DG CNECT, Telecommunications Technology Association Viessmann, WIKA Alexander Wiegand SE & Co. KG Nibe Industrier, Siemens, Pionix, Eclipse Foundation, xFlow Research Inc., ECOS, W3C, eebus, Digital4Grids, International Hellenic University and the DTU - Technical University of Denmark.
