Last week I had the opportunity to attend, as part of Coglobal and People Powered, to the Autumn School on Citizens' Assemblies, organized in Barcelona by FIDE - Europe in collaboration with deliberativa.org and Platoniq Foundation. It was a nice opportunity to learn from experts how the different phases of designing and implementing a citizen assembly work: including how to frame the question of this deliberative process, the recruitment of participants, its governance models, the creation of recommendations, its facilitation and how to follow-up on its results. It was also a fantastic event to meet democracy-passionate people from all around Europe and to share with them the support that we offer in Nets4Dem regarding citizen's assemblies, like the Rising Stars Mentorship program and the Democratic Innovations Accelerator (with expert mentors in this field) and also the Participation Playbook and its Citizen Assembly module as a key tool to design this process. Citizens' assemblies are an innovative way to enhance democracy by bringing diverse groups of everyday people together to discuss and make recommendations on complex issues. This process promotes informed, deliberative decision-making and ensures that more voices are heard. It is really exciting for innovative democracy to witness this deliberative wave and to count on programs like this to promote it and help people gain the necessary knowledge and skills to contribute to the wave. It is also necessary to consider that to make the most impact, especially at the local level, it’s important to not forget about combining citizens' assemblies with other participatory tools such as participatory budgeting, and other kinds of public consultations. When paired with citizens' assemblies, these efforts can better reflect the broader community’s values and needs, and produce a better result on citizen participation. #DemocraticInnovation #DeliberativeDemocracy #Nets4Dem #CitizenAssemblies #Participation

This week I had the opportunity to participate as a speaker in the webinar "From Design to Implementation: Citizen's Assemblies", organized by MOSAIC in the framework of the #DemoReset project. It was a fantastic event to learn more about citizen's assemblies from experts like Damir Kapidzic and Marcin Gerwin; as one of the main innovative methodologies for implementing deliberative democracy in our societies. Citizen's assemblies foster inclusive decision-making by allowing diverse voices to engage in informed, deliberative discussions, leading to more legitimate and representative policy outcomes. From my side, I had the chance to present the main tools and capacity-building opportunities that Coglobal and People Powered are offering in Nets4Dem which can support practitioners and policy-makers in the design or implementation of this deliberative process, such as: 🚀 Rising Stars Mentorship program; providing up to 5 individual sessions with an expert mentor on different participatory democracy processes, including citizen's assemblies. You can apply here (next selection in 2025): https://lnkd.in/eZMhk35h ⚡Democratic Innovations Accelerator; a 6-month program combining training, mentorship support, peer-to-peer learning and the design of an action plan for the implementation of your citizen's assembly or other participatory process through the #ParticipationPlaybook. Applications are open now until the 24th of November: https://lnkd.in/eBkK2ym7 If you are an organization or institution that wants to develop a citizen's assembly process, take a look at Nets4Dem opportunities more in detail in its website: https://nets4dem.eu/ Special thanks to Melina Mohorić for the invitation and Alisa Aliti Vlasic for her support of the organization.
