Etymology

For the "pillow" sense, perhaps from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *m-k(u/i)m (pillow, block, bench, bedstead), and cognate with (OC *ʔl'um, “chopping block”), Burmese ခုံ (hkum, raised block) (STEDT).
