ASUS ZenScreen MB249C Portable Monitor – 24-inch Review

ASUS has launched one of the largest Portable Monitor in the market now, with a Full HD 24inch screen, that has also won the 2023 Red Dot Product Design Award.

Design

The design of the ASUS ZenScreen MB249C is sleek and modern. The monitor features a frameless 23.8-inch Full HD IPS display with an anti-glare surface coating, allowing for seamless multi-monitor setups and improved viewing experiences.

The monitor weight 2.85 kg and has a Dimension of : 539.34 x 346.3 x 23.6 mm (W x H x D)
The thin bezels enhance the overall aesthetic appeal of the monitor.

 

On the left side of the monitor we can see there’s a full size HDMI port and the Integrated USB-C connectivity provides audiovisual signal transmission along with 60-watt power delivery, very useful for MacbookPro to be able to display out and charge at the same time. There’s also a 3.5mm earphone jack for backward compatibles. At the bottom we can see the power socket for ease of use.

Useful buttons on the right to enter OSD setting and the power button located just above the Kensington Lock slot.

Here we can see the back of the monitor with the special handle/kickstand making it easy to transport and set up in different locations.

The kickstand can be adjusted up to 12–60° on a flat surface, great for collaborative work or sharing photos.

We also can find VESA compatible Wall Mounting for 100x100mm and the special hook for the C-Clamp Arm.

Here we can see the C-Clamp that has a slim body and a easy to adjust height mechanism.

ZenScreen MB249C has a wide 178° viewing angles and usage anti-glare panel with AMD FreeSync and is certified  TÜV Flicker-free & TÜV Low Blue Light

Mounting the monitor is easy with the ability to Tilt : Yes (+20° ~ -5°) , Swivel : Yes (+90° ~ -90°) ,Pivot : Yes (0° ~ 90° Clockwise) and also Height Adjustment of 0~180mm with C-Clamp arm.

 

The monitor is equipped with stereo speakers that has 2 x  1-watt speakers useful for system notifications only.

Image Quality

The ASUS ZenScreen MB249C portable monitor features a resolution of 1920×1080, a brightness of 250cd/㎡, a contrast ratio of 1000:1,  and support for 16.7M colours, a response time of 5ms (GTG), and a maximum refresh rate of 75Hz.

The Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 that’s about 92.5 PPI pixels per inch can deliver crisp and detailed images, while the anti-glare coating minimizes reflections and glare for comfortable viewing even in brightly lit environments.

We tested playing Hogwarts Legacy and found it fairly decent for casual gamers.

Video Quality

Video playback is crisp and colour are decent enough for the contrast ratio of 1000:1. It’s a very good secondary for casual background video while doing real work on your laptop or main non-portable monitor.
