Ukrainian Cyber Defense As winter approaches, the enemy has already begun preparing for missile strikes on Ukraine’s energy facilities. Against the backdrop of a decrease in the overall number of cyber incidents, there has been an increase in destructive attacks on energy companies and other entities within the energy sector. In particular, three high-level incidents related to interference and data destruction were recorded during these attacks. The most active group involved in these attacks is UAC-0010 (Armageddon). Meanwhile, research and technical attribution of many other cyberattacks are still ongoing. Additionally, the aggressor continues to carry out attacks associated with the compromise of Ukraine’s electronic registries. A massive distribution of malware called MeduzaStealer has been detected among Telegram users via the account @reserveplusbot. This account was created under the guise of a Telegram bot imitating technical support for the “Reserve+” app, which is used by military conscripts. Initial attribution points to Fire Cells Group, which is directly linked to the activities of UAC-0050 (DaVinci). This indicates that, apart from financial motives, UAC-0050 also conducts information operations and steals information in the interests of Russian intelligence agencies. The cyberwar continues beyond Ukraine’s borders. Russians, together with their allies, are actively attacking the US, Japan, and the EU. Their destructive activities are achieving their intended goals, which, unfortunately, have not been met with sufficient asymmetric responses, thereby fueling new expansionist ambitions of the Russian pseudo-empire. Incidentally, a bot called @SearchReport has appeared on Telegram, where you can report prohibited content. Let’s test its effectiveness! The war continues.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Margus Tsakhna said at #TDS2024: We must help Ukraine win. I support peace, but not at the price of occupation, deportation, and destruction. We all must learn from Ukrainian resilience, how they use digital technologies. Estonia faces existential challenges. But we have strong allies, governments and businesses. Reflecting on this article by CZ DEFENCE, it becomes clear that the relationship between Czech and international businesses has evolved significantly. Traditionally, foreign companies expanded into the Czech market through investments in Czech companies. Today, however, Czech companies are emerging as major players on the global stage, acquiring renowned international firms to enhance their portfolios.   A prime example is the Czechoslovak Group (CSG), which acquired the 700-year-old Spanish munitions factory Fábrica de Municiones de Granada (FMG) and a majority stake in Italy's Fiocchi Munizioni. The group's pending $1.9 billion deal to acquire The Kinetic Group operating segment of Vista Outdoor underscores this shift.   The war in Ukraine has further influenced global demand for specific military products, particularly indirect fire munitions and UAV systems. As I noted in the interview, this increased demand has opened new opportunities for CSG in the U.S. Entering the U.S. market, however, comes with its own set of opportunities and challenges, especially concerning foreign direct investments in companies that are part of the U.S. industrial base and crucial to national defense. Such investments require review and approval by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. (CFIUS).   The CFIUS approval process, which requires a high degree of transparency and ongoing compliance, can be seen as a hurdle and burden. However, at CSG we view the transparency of the CFIUS process as an advantage, enabling us to build trust through the review process and monitoring measures included in the ensuing national security agreement between the CFIUS and transacting parties.   CSG is confident in a positive outcome of the CFIUS process for the acquisition of The Kinetic Group by our Ammo+ division. This acquisition will reflect CSG’s commitment to expanding our footprint in the U.S. market. This expansion in the U.S. is not just about growth; it's about strengthening the U.S. industrial base, contributing to economic development, and creating jobs in the communities where we operate.   Looking ahead, CSG USA aims to continue its growth through strategic joint ventures and further acquisitions, transferring valuable know-how to the U.S. and strengthening our partnerships.
