One of my Big Five for Life is eager to become a bit more of a reality… Today, after almost 1.5 years full of concept comparison, feasibility analyses, and risk/opportunity assessments during several approval procedures, we have finally reached the milestone "kick-off meeting work planning", moving from project initiation & conception into the definition & planning phase. In this house construction project, I'm taking over responsibility - together with my beloved brother - serving my family in the role of the Project Owner, ultimate legally & economically accountable and fully responsible for the results of the project. After 12+ years of striving within the profession of Project Management, peppered with some exciting challenges in numerous industries - primarily in the roles of project/program manager, scrum master, agile coach, trainer, business consultant, and PMO leader with all my heart & soul - this is a completely new but consistently positive experience for me to date. A few lessons I have learned so far and would like to share: 1.     Sometimes you must have the guts to make your own road... but sharing is caring, and "Together is better." Especially in some never-ending battle for approval with public authorities - despite numbers like dimensions & square meters, due dates, cost estimations, and risk budgets, it is now (again) a proven fact for me that human beings "can't feel a sense of accountability to numbers; we can only feel accountable to people." 2.     Actively use the added value of the front-end loading potential. You can influence a project most at the lowest cost with minimal risk exposure during the initiation and definition phases. 3.    Never underestimate the power of your foster network. Anticipating, analyzing, and managing interests, needs, and expectations is time-consuming but key to understanding relevant stakeholders, creating a trusted environment of mutual respect, knowing the smartest team behind the greatest team on board, and being able to develop a common perspective while making "progress toward something bigger than ourselves." 4.     One single decision, contrary view, or (un)considered idea can let your project fly or flop. Go your way with undeterred integrity, but take your time considering the really important things again & again with the greatest possible amount of humility and patience. The last one is, for sure, the most severe personal challenge for me so far. "Dream big. Start small. But most of all, start." I just finished my 5 year/ 60 month commitment 2 weeks ago as the very last patient dosed in Iovance Biotherapeutics, Inc. C-144-01 Phase 2 Cohort 4 #ClinicalTrial for LN-144 aka #Lifileucel NCT02360579 https://lnkd.in/gJgnZ2vV Now FDA approved and labeled as #AMTAGVI. As 1 of the 12 #MucosalMelanoma patients out of the 153 total that received their #TIL, I am 1 of the 6 responders of the subset. After receiving my TIL infusion on January 15, 2020 followed up by 6 doses of IL-2, my follow up scans 6 weeks later showed 50-60% reduction and at my 9 month scans showed a CMR. A couple of of PET-CT’s confirmed this and my scans have continued to be clean and clear. In addition to being the very last patient dosed, I was 37 years old at the time with 6 prior failed lines of systemic treatments (surgeries and radiation not included). It was either I do this trial and it works or I finish out my days in hospice. On 11/25/2019 I had the extraction from a 6X6cm lymph node in my R groin & shortly after received the news that my CELLS were growing as intended and the arrangements were made to be admitted to the hospital for NMLD in December of 2019. I remember thinking, “Wow, I’m going to be spending Christmas in the hospital“. On review of my baseline scans the day before I was to be admitted at University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, on 12/10/2019 I was given the news of a 1 cm brain metastasis on the occipital lobe and a untreated brain Mets was a automatic exclusion. I was devastated. Thankfully, Texas Oncology reached out to my Colorado team and long story short is the clinical trial very last date end date for TIL infusion was 1/15/2020. To get back in, I had to treat the Brain Mets and re-scan to prove the mass was stable or in reduction while still meeting the requirements for the washout period. This required 5 SRS Radiation treatments, 1/day for 5 days. The last date to scan was 12/24/2019. The roadblock insurance approval to get on schedule for a custom mask to be made. As the the Sands ran out of the hourglass, approval came on 12/16/2019, the mask made on 12/17 and did all 5 sessions in 4 days. The 4th day was a double dose and on the following day, I re-scanned on 12/24/2019. On 1/3/2020 I was told the brain Mets went from 1cm to 1.2cm, pseudo progression and given the green light for admission into the hospital on 1/8/2020. The rest is history. I have few pics from my 12 days in the hospital. I do have some video of the rigors from the IL-2 TRAE’s. In the day of my TIL infusion 1/15/2020, I remember being told I was the last in this trial and a Press Release was being issued. https://lnkd.in/gV-UNwXC I am so grateful TIL saved my life I want to scream it from the rooftops! I also wish I was at ISCT, International Society for Cell & Gene Therapy Europe 2024 to share but maybe next year in 2025.

The webinar "The EU Taxonomy for Sustainable Activities as a Framework for Ukraine's Green Recovery" brought together leading experts to discuss the importance of harmonizing Ukrainian legislation with European sustainable development standards. 🗣 Carolin Horn ING discussed the key role of the EU Taxonomy in directing investments towards environmentally sustainable activities and emphasized that this tool helps investors identify activities that contribute to achieving the EU's climate goals and transitioning to a carbon-neutral economy by 2050, ensuring transparency and compliance with social standards. 🗣 Maxim Libanov noted that active work is underway to comprehensively improve the Ukrainian legislative framework to support sustainable financing. He emphasized that green bonds have already been introduced as a separate instrument within the capital markets law. 🗣 Andrii Kitura spoke about the stages of Ukraine's readiness to implement the EU taxonomy in the energy and industrial sectors. He also mentioned that the necessity of implementing specific projects is an important foundation for the implementation of the taxonomy, as these projects will help create a basis for the sustainable development of the country in accordance with European standards. 🗣 Maryna Bereznytska shared her experience regarding the company's projects in land use and afforestation, which will promote agricultural productivity, preserve ecosystems, improve water resource management, and support natural habitats for wildlife. She also emphasized that these initiatives will help Ukraine in its post-war recovery in the long term. Overall, the webinar served as an important platform for discussing the role of the EU Taxonomy in directing investments towards environmentally sustainable activities and its implementation in Ukraine. This is one of my favourite Mintzberg articles. Strategic thinking as seeing - in so many different ways. I just love what a nuanced, intricate skill strategic thinking is. A participant in my programme recently remarked after seeing the strategic thinking framework that we learn - "I'm surprised to see actions in it, and surprised how comprehensive and thorough it is". That's because strategic thinking is multi-faceted, it is many things all at the same time, as Henry eloquently describes here. It is big picture, and (to some extent) analysis of detail. It is mundane, and creative. It is (must be) visionary, and pragmatic. It is conceptual, and concrete. And the real skill is tying all of these things together and being all of them as a thinker. Exciting stuff. Enjoy the read. It is a simple but profound article. #strategicthinking
