Welcome to Ülemiste City – #Tallinn’s #smart business district where #innovation meets greenery (currently indoors), and #robots might just beat you to lunch! Definitely worth visiting if you have already seen our city's main #attractions. Once an industrial area near the airport, Ülemiste has transformed into a buzzing hub of modern offices, #tech companies, and surprisingly great coffee spots. It’s where professionals build the #future, #startups pitch big ideas, and visitors enjoy a stroll through streets named after actual brains (hello, Tesla and Galileo!). Need a non traditional breather or feel the need to swap the medieval for modern? Ülemiste’s public #art, #parks, and open spaces make it a great escape without leaving Tallinn behind. Just look both ways — you never know when a self-driving shuttle might cruise by. PS: A little hint for #MICE professionals — the area also caters to event organizers, offering venues for meetings with up to approximately 200 delegates. Plus, it’s just a 5-minute walk from the airport and easily reachable by public transport from the rest of the city. POLITICO had a closer look at Tallinn’s waste management situation and efforts to reduce amounts of packaging waste - always happy to share Estonian innovation stories😃 Estonia's digital prowess helped the country survive the Covid-19 pandemic. Four years later, its capital Tallinn is betting on its tech-savvy startups to fix another menace: #packaging #waste. From cardboard delivery boxes and coffee cups to packets of sauce and wooden chopsticks, municipalities have had to beef up waste-management services to handle the rising tide of single-use packaging amid growing demand for #online #shopping and #doorstep #delivery options. City of Tallinn launched the "Test in Tallinn" innovation program to enable businesses to test-drive sustainability solutions using urban infrastructure. One example is Ringo, a reusable containers-as-a-service provider working with coffee shops and restaurants to allow customers to select #reusable options that can later be dropped off at collection boxes across the city, particularly in office buildings. "The barrier for a consumer is that ... deposit feels uncomfortable and returning feels uncomfortable,” said Ringo founder and CEO Janek Balõnski. 👉Local problems, local solutions Besides offering reusable options, Estonian companies like RAIKU Packaging and KIUD Technologies are also bringing alternative packaging materials (made with wood or textile waste) to market. I really hope there will be more circular solutions that grow out of the challenges. From one off innovations to full reverse logistics infra! And please - let’s overcome the “uncomfortable” block, reusing is so needed! Thank you Marianne Gros and POLITICO Europe Kaie Kaas-Ojavere, Liis Tiisvelt, Rain Randsberg Full article in the comments👇

The construction of the new Circular Economy Center begins in #Tallinn! We have signed the contract with the builder, Fund Ehitus OÜ for 7,8 million euros. Lasnamäe will have a beautiful, smart and environmentally friendly circular economy center, which will surely become a pearl of the urban space and a community center. City of Tallinn's largest circular economy center will be made of #CLT and completed in 13 months. It will be a centre promoting circular economy, where study rooms, repair workshops, circular shops offering circular products, a cafe and a material handling station will be located. The circular centre is covered by a grass roof, has a solar power plant and is surrounded by a public park. ❇️CIRCULAR HOUSE - classrooms will be created where environmental and circular economy trainings, practical workshops and conferences can be held. ❇️CAFE and STORE - a cafe will be added to the center and a circular store will sell goods repaired from the items collected on site. ❇️PARK - The current overgrown area will become a public park space with minimal intervention, preserving the natural landscape to the maximum extent. ❇️WASTE PLANT - all containers are completely inside the building, so no noise, dust or anything that could disturb the neighborhood. ❇️WC - rainwater is used for flushing, and rainwater is also used for irrigation. ❇️RE-USED MATERIALS - the facade part of the building's waste station is made of recycled wood, the bearing system allows for flexible reconstruction and disassembly if necessary, which simplifies the re-use of materials. The shelves are made from recycled wood, while old tires are used in the design of the lighting. More info in comments:

Nordic Circular Summit 2024 in Helsinki: A Milestone for Circular Economy! ✨ On November 18, 2024, an important milestone was reached in Helsinki, Finland – circular economy leaders from the Baltic States signed a collaboration memorandum at the Nordic Circular Summit. The goal? To accelerate the transition to a circular economy and find shared solutions for building a sustainable future. 🤝 The growing need for eco-friendly and resource-efficient practices underlines the importance of a circular economy. Resource scarcity and costly consumption are pushing businesses to adopt innovative, collaboration-driven solutions. 💡 The Nordic Circular Summit, the largest circular economy conference in the Nordics, brought together experts, entrepreneurs, and visionaries from across the Nordic and Baltic regions. This year’s summit focused on exploring how businesses and startups can address gaps in the circular economy and drive sustainable progress. The conference was organized in collaboration with Nordic Circular Hotspot and Nordic Innovation and serves as an official side event of the World Circular Economy Forum. Representing the Tallinn Enterprise Centre: Jaanus Vahesalu Kärt Kanne Liina Kanarbik, Lead Specialist for Circular Economy 🔗Read more about the summit here: https://lnkd.in/dDgjNjcR #CircularEconomy #SustainableFuture #Tallinn #NordicCircularSummit
