  • 🌍✨ Exciting News from Youth Leaders! ✨🌍 We're proud to launch our Youth Position Statement for COP29! This crucial document captures the united vision and demands of young climate advocates from around the world. As the climate crisis continues to escalate, our voices and actions are more important than ever. We call on world leaders, policymakers, and global stakeholders to prioritize climate justice, intergenerational equity, and bold, science-based action. Our statement emphasizes the need for ambitious climate targets, meaningful youth participation in decision-making, investment in climate education, and a steadfast commitment to environmental and social justice. Youth have the power to drive real change, and at COP29, we are here to be heard. A huge thank you to all of the incredible contributors who helped shape this powerful message: Saikat Das, Elena Naumovska, Fabiola Pereira, Paul Jenkinson, Tiago da Gama Gonçalves, Ludger Peters, Samrudhi Inamdar MIET, Janna Beijer, Denis Hardi and Igor Ostrowski. Your passion, dedication, and commitment inspire us every day! • *European Young Engineers (EYE) 30 year anniversary* 30 years ago today, Willem Lahaye Philippe Stas Luc Bongaerts Jan De Strooper and other young engineers from across Belgium and The Netherlands were pioneering what has grown into a collective spanning 22 countries and 34 member institutions. By now, the European Young Engineers (EYE) community has brought about countless life changing opportunities and experiences spanning across several generations. We are all thankful for the community's humble beginnings and all of the work, experiences and memories that our founders started. With this in mind, our members will continue today and far into the future to carry the community forward - by providing the largest youth-led platform for young engineers to interface and collectively representing the voice of all EYErs in European and Global forums. Together, anything is achievable! #eye #engineers #potential #30years #anniversary

  • 🌍 Final Statement on COP29: "Time is a Luxury We Can No Longer Afford" As COP29 wraps up, we can’t help but feel the weight of missed opportunities. This was supposed to be the COP that delivered bold financial action to keep us aligned with science, especially for the global south. Instead, we got watered-down commitments and loopholes that threaten the 1.5°C goal—and time is not on our side. Our on-ground delegates captured this frustration: "The financial quantum and mechanisms in this NCQG decision fundamentally undermine the urgent warnings of science. This COP was supposed to deliver the climate financing necessary to keep us on track with the IPCC’s recommendations, particularly for the global south. Instead, it offers loopholes and insufficient commitments, jeopardising the 1.5°C target. We urgently call for the reaffirmed recognition of scientific evidence throughout all climate policymaking and demand developed countries step up to accept their responsibilities for delivering real climate action by providing more total and easier access to climate finance." This outcome leaves us asking: how much more proof do we need? The science is clear. The solutions exist. What’s missing is the courage to act. Young voices and vulnerable communities have been loud and clear, but their demands were sidelined yet again. We’re calling for a reset: it’s time for decision-makers to step up, follow the science, and deliver climate finance that’s accessible, sufficient, and fair. The clock is ticking, and we can’t afford to lose another second. #ClimateAction #YouthForClimate #COP29 #NoTimeToLose

COP29 - where to start? The people! The people and teams I worked with in Baku really helped piece everything together. Compared with going about pretty solo at COP28 in Dubai, I enjoyed the experience so much more and have so many more stories of awe inspiring moments, frantic chaotic adventures and fun in between thanks to all the friends I stayed with European Young Engineers (EYE) colleagues at the "EYE house". It was a blessing and I'm really proud of how we managed to get a delegation of 6 onground in Baku, along with 15 more online, all contributing to the efforts in different volunteered and self-funded ways. The added challenge of coordination is certainly worth it for the presence of friendship and cameraderie throughout. Both our personal and professional relationships are so much stronger at EYE after this. I'm already looking forward to #EYEMalta2025 in April and everything that will come afterwards! Then again coordinating with both the YOUNGO Energy Working Group and YOUNGO Learn teams, it was so inspiring to see as new mixes of people scramble together to channel passions and pursue our collective goals Final days spent with Network European Youth Climate Action (NEYCA) will also be held close with the dramatic melancholic urgency of responding to texts as a collective of European youth - and of course countless others in the youth climate space who helped stand our ground I really felt a sincere resilience on ground this year. The atmosphere is always electric in these global spaces (they are the biggest gathering in human history, after all!) but it felt to me like something big is coming around the corner. A relentless experience sure, but even till those final early Sunday morning hours, the combined energy of youth was there. I'm so grateful to be a part of this movement #youth #energy #climate #cop29
