About us
This is the official company page for the European Union Agency for the Operational Management of Large-Scale IT Systems in the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice (eu-LISA). eu-LISA was established to manage large-scale information systems in the area of freedom, security and justice. It fulfils the operational management tasks for Eurodac, the Schengen Information System (SIS II) and the Visa Information System (VIS). The Agency thus supports the implementation of the EU's border management, asylum and migration policies. eu-LISA has also been entrusted with the preparation, development and operational management of the European Entry-Exit System (EES), the European Travel Information and Authorisation Systems (ETIAS) as well as the European Criminal Records Information System - Third Country Nationals (ECRIS-TCN) and ensure that both these and the already existing systems are interoperable. eu-LISA is responsible for keeping all the IT systems under its control permanently functional in order to allow continuous and uninterrupted exchange of data between national authorities. 🔸 #Eurodac Annual Report 2023 » The EU's fingerprint database for migration management, Eurodac, underwent a major upgrade in June 2023, increasing its storage capacity from 7M to 9M datasets and its daily processing capacity by 60% to handle up to 24,000 transactions. 🔸 By the end of 2023, Eurodac recorded 7.3M datasets, marking a 13% increase compared to the previous year. » Last week, eu-LISA’s Executive Director ad interim, Marili Männik, participated in the Justice and Home Affairs Council Meetings held in Brussels. » Home Affairs Ministers were briefed on the progress made in implementating the #Interoperability architecture, with a focus on the #EES. eu-LISA reiterated its commitment to ensuring the successful delivery of the system, providing robust support to Member States, and fostering cooperation with all relevant stakeholders. » In relation to the implementation of migration and asylum reforms, significant progress has been achieved across the various work streams entrusted to eu-LISA, including the new #EURODAC system - a cornerstone of the new Pact on Migration and Asylum. » Ms Männik also endorsed the priority placed on enhancing the security of the #Schengen Area through digitalisation and the effective utilisation of existing tools, such as #SIS, #VIS, and Eurodac. » Regarding the application of #AI in the field of justice, eu-LISA welcomed the continuation of collaborative discussions on its use and impact. #JHAAN2024 🤝 The Heads of nine Justice and Home Affairs Agencies, along with representatives from EU Institutions, met this week at eu-LISA headquarters in Tallinn to shape the future of cooperation between Agencies and the EU Institutions. In her welcome address, Marili Männik, eu-LISA’s Executive Director ad interim, emphasised the crucial role of collaboration in addressing shared challenges and driving progress across the network. 👉 Key discussions focused on strategic priorities, cooperation tools, innovation, and pressing topics such as the AI Act, cloud utilisation, and digital transformation.
