To my ears, this sounds like a product of early '00s clicks & cuts, but one that's aged much better than what was hot then. The overall vibe is contemplative, fracturing jazz into fragments and repainting them into impressionistic soundscapes. David Lynch jazz meets Mille Plateaux meets Bohren & der Club of Gore, maybe, but distant and abstract, as opposed to dark and heavy. I love how the cymbals feel warm and papery, a perfect evocation of birds flapping wings.
